Stay, foolish heart, thy impatience awhile,
The work of faith with hope's visions beguile :
He who would enter the joy of his Lord,

First serves-then, through grace expects the reward.

Saviour dear Saviour! the work is all Thine;
Nor less the praise, while the joy shall be mine;
That word, “Good and faithful," belongs but to Thee,
Who sinless to death, wrought obedience for me.

EAST.

* In sweet servitude and golden bonds We're tied to Him for ever.-Oh, how easy Is His ungalling yoke! and all His burthens 'Tis ecstacy to bear! Him, blessed Shepherd! His flocks shall follow through the maze of life, And shades that tend to day-spring from on high, And as the radiant roses, after fading,

In fuller foliage, and more fragrant breath,

Revive in smiling spring, so shall it fare

With those that love Him :-for, sweet is their savour,

And all eternity shall be their spring.

SMART.

Take my heart, 'tis all Thine own ;

To Thy will my spirit frame;

Thou shalt reign, and Thou alone,

Over all I have or am.

Making thus the Lord my choice,
I have nothing more to choose,
But to listen to Thy voice,
And my will in Thine to lose.

Ah! give me, Lord, the tender heart,
That trembles at the approach of sin;
A godly fear of sin impart;
Implant and root it deep within!

That I may dread Thy gracious power,
And never dare t' offend Thee more!

WESLEY.

God of all grace and majesty!
Supremely great and good!
If I have favour found with Thee
Through the atoning blood,
The guard of all Thy mercies give,
And to my pardon join

A fear, lest I should ever grieve
The gracious Spirit divine.

Since mercy is indeed with Thee,
May I obedient prove,
Nor e'er abuse my liberty,

Or sin against Thy love:

This choicest fruit of faith bestow

On a poor sojourner;
And let me pass my days below

In humbleness and fear.

Still may

I walk as in Thy sight,

My strict Observer see,

And Thou by reverent love unite

My wandering heart to Thee; Still let me, till my days are past, At Jesus' feet abide;

So shall He lift me up at last,

And seat me by His side.

XX. SEEKING GOD.

YE shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all you heart.-JER. xxix. 13.

When Thou saidst, Seek ye my face, my heart said unto Thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.-PSALM Xxvii. 8.

With doubts, and fears, and cares opprest,
Man's wayward thoughts desponding rove;
Where shall the troubled soul find rest?
Oh! fly to God, for God is love.

If grief for sin thy peace destroy,

prayers

and tears God's mercy prove;

With
From Him seek pardon, rest, and joy,
Seek, you shall find-for God is love.

In Jesus hear His mercy speak,

Fear Him who reigns in heaven above; From heaven He came the lost to seek, Jesus is God, and God is love.
