are of a clean heart. 2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. 3 For 1 was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 5 They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. 16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me: 17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. 18 Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction. 25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee. 26 My flesh and my heart faileth but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

PSALM LXXXIV. Delight in Worship. How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts! 2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God. 3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God. 4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. 5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee: in whose heart are the ways of them. 7 They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God. 8 O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. 9 Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed. 10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand: I had rather be a door-keeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing

will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. 12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

PSALM XC. Man's Mortality.

LORD, thou hast been our dwelling-place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world even from everlasting to everlasting thou art God. 3 Thou turnest man to destruction: and sayest, Return, ye children of men. 4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. 5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood, they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up. 6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth. 7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled. 8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. 10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. 12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. 14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. 15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.

PSALM XCVII. Joy in God's Government. THE Lord reigneth, let the earth rejoice: let the multitude of isles be glad thereof. 2 Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne. 4 His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth

saw and trembled. the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. 6 The heavens declare his righteousness: and all the people see his glory. 7 Counfounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him all ye gods. 8 Zion heard, and was glad, and the daugh. ters of Judah rejoiced; because of thy judgments, O Lord. 9 For thou, Lord, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods. that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints, he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. 11 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. 12 Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

PSALM CII. Prayer in Affliction.

10 Ye

HEAR my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come unto thee. 2 Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble, incline thine ear unto me in the day when i call, answer me speedily. 3 For my days are consumed like smoke: and my bones are burnt as an hearth. 4 My heart is smitten and withered like grass: so that I forget to cat my bread. 11 My days are like a shadow that declineth: and I am withered like grass. 12 But thou, O Lord, shalt endure for ever, and thy remembrance unto all generations. 23 He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days.

24 I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations. 25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. 26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure yea, all of them shall wax old like a gar

ment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed. 27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.

28 The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.

PSALM CIII. God's unceasing Mercy.

BLESS the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities: who healeth all thy diseases. 4 Who redeemeth thy life from desstruction: who crowneth thee with loving kindness, and tender mercies. 5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things: so that thy youth is renewed like the eagles. 6 The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. 8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. 9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. 10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. 14 For he knoweth our frame: he remembereth that we are dust. 15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. 16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. 17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him and his righteousness unto children's children; 18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

PSALM CIV. The Providence of God.

BLESS the Lord, O my soul: O Lord my God thou art very great, thou art clothed with honour and majesty. 2 Who coverest thyself with light, as with a garment who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain. 3 Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters, who maketh the clouds his chariot, who walketh upon the wings of the wind. 4 Who maketh his angels spirits: his ministers a flaming fire. 5 Who laid the founda

tions of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever. 6 Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. 7 At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. 8 They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.

9

Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over that they turn not again to cover the earth. 10 He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills. 11 They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst. 12 By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches. 13 He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.

14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth: 15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth an's heart. 16 The trees of the Lord are full of sap: the cedars of Lebanon which he hath planted. 17 Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her Luse. 18
