3 Hell's armies tremble at Thy nod
And trembling own the Almighty God,
Sovereign of earth, hell, air, and sky !
But Who is this, that comes from far,
Whose garments rolled in blood appear?
'Tis God made man, for man to die!

4 O God, of good the unfathomed Sea!
Who would not give his heart to Thee,

Who would not love Thee with his might?
O Jesus, Lover of mankind!

Who would not his whole soul and mind
With all his strength to Thee unite?

324 "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ ?"

1 LIFE nor death shall us dissever
From His love Who reigns for ever;
Will He fail us? never! never!
When to Him we cry.

2 But His might shall still defend us,
And His blessèd Son befriend us,
And His Holy Spirit send us
Comfort ere we die. Amen.

The Christian Life-Holiness.

325 "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.”

1 LORD, as to Thy dear Cross we flee,
And plead to be forgiven,

So let Thy life our pattern be,

And form our souls for heaven.

2 Help us, through good report and ill,
Our daily cross to bear;

Like Thee, to do our Father's will,
Our brethren's griefs to share.

3 Let grace our selfishness expel,
Our earthliness refine,

And kindness in our bosom dwell,
As free and true as Thine.

4 If joy shall at Thy bidding fly,
And grief's dark day come on,
We, in our turn, would meekly cry,
"Father, Thy will be done."

5 Kept peaceful in the midst of strife,
Forgiving and forgiven,

O may we lead the pilgrim's life,
And follow Thee to heaven. Amen.

326 "The love of Christ constraineth me.”

1 My blessed Saviour, is Thy love
So great, so full, so free?
Behold I give my love, my heart,
My life, my all, to Thee !

2 I love Thee for the glorious worth,
Which in Thyself I see ;

I love Thee for that shameful Cross
Thou hast endured for me.

3 Though in the very form of God,
With heavenly glory crowned
Thou would'st partake of human flesh
Beset with troubles round.

4 Thou wouldst like wretched man be made, In everything but sin,

That we as like Thee might become,
As we unlike have been.

5 Like Thee in faith, in meekness, love,
In every beauteous grace;

From glory thus to glory changed,
As we behold Thy face.

"He saith unto them, Follow Me."

1 JESUS calls us, o'er the tumult

Of our life's wild restless sea,
Day by day His sweet voice soundeth,
Saying, "Christian, follow me.”

2 As of old, Apostles heard it
By the Galilean lake,

Turned from home and toil and kindred,
Leaving all for His dear sake.

3 Jesus calls us from the worship
Of the vain world's golden store,
From each idol that would keep us,
Saying, "Christian, love Me more.

4 In our joys and in our sorrows,

Days of toil and hours of ease, Still He calls, in cares and pleasures, "Christian, love Me more than these."

5 Jesus calls us; by Thy mercies,

Saviour, may we hear Thy call,
Give our hearts to Thy obedience,

Serve and love Thee best of all. Amen.

"Learn of Me."

1 WHAT grace, O Lord, and beauty shone
Around Thy steps below;
What patient love was seen in all
Thy life and death of woe!

2 For ever on Thy burdened heart
A weight of sorrow hung;
Yet no ungentle, murmuring word
Escaped Thy silent tongue.

3 Thy foes might hate, despise, revile,
Thy friends unfaithful prove;
Unwearied in forgiveness still,
Thy heart could only love.

4 O give us hearts to love like Thee,
Like Thee, O Lord, to grieve
Far more for others' sins, than all
The wrongs that we receive.

5 One with Thyself, may every eye
In us, Thy brethren, see

That gentleness and grace that spring
From union, Lord, with Thee.

329 "Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.”+

1 LORD, to whom, except to Thee,
Shall our wandering spirits go-
Thee Whom it is light to see,
And eternal life to know?

2 Israel on the heavenly bread Fed, and died in days of yore, But the souls upon Thee fed

Never thirst nor hunger more.

3 Lord, to whom, except to Thee, Shall we go when ills betide? Who, except Thyself, can be

Hope and Help and Strength and Guide?

4 Who can prove what Thou hast proved?
Who can win what Thou hast won?
Who can love as Thou hast loved?
Who can do as Thou hast done?

5 Who can cleanse the soul from sin, Hear the prayer, and seal the vow? Who can fill the void within,

Blessed Saviour, who but Thou?

6 Therefore evermore I'll give

Thanks and praise, my God, to Thee;
Evermore in Thee I live,

Evermore live Thou in me. Amen.

330 "There is none.. that I desire in comparison of Thee.”

1 WHO is there like Thee,

Jesus unto me?

None are like Thee, none above Thee,
Thou art altogether lovely;

None on earth have we,
None in heaven like Thee
