“ The washing of regeneration." 2. 'Tis done; that new and heavenly birth
Which re-creates the sons of earth,
'Tis done; the Cross upon the brow
O ye who brought that babe to-day
Teach it to know a FATHER's love,
That so before the judgment-seat
Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
• When Thou lettest thy Breath go forth they shall be made, and Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.”
Come, Thou Holy SPIRIT, come;
Shed the ray of light divine;
Come, within our bosoms shine.
Thou of Comforters the best,
Sweet Refreshment here below!
Solace in the midst of woe!
O most Blessed Light Divine,
And our inmost being fill:
All our good is turned to ill.
Wash the stains of guilt away:
Guide the steps that go astray.
On the faithful, who adore
In Thy sevenfold gifts descend;
“ It shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh.”
4. Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire,
And lighten with celestial fire;
Thy blessed Unction from above
Anoint and cheer our soiled face
Teach us to know the FATHER, SON,
be our endless song;
“ Do This in remembrance of ME.”
5. SING we that Blest Body broken,
Our weak souls' mysterious Food;
Gifting us with His own blood,
And our holy brotherhood.
Born for us, and for us given,
Of a virgin undefil'd,
Sojourn’d He in this world's wild;
He His wondrous, course fulfill'd.
Meekly to the law complying,
He had finish'd its commands;
Gave Himself with His own Hands;
Thenceforth unto all the lands.
God the Word by one word maketh
Bread His very Flesh to be;
Tastes the Fount of Calvary:
Unto this His Presence veiled
Draw we nigh, with heads bow'd low:
Yields to higher blessings now;
Faith adores, nor questions how.
Both to FATHER and to Son:
One with Them, as LORD alone:
“Come, for all things are now ready." 6. My God, and is Thy table spread,
And doth Thy cup with love o'erflow?
Hail, sacred Feast, which Jesus makes,
Why are its dainties all in vain
