1 Mofes fong, which fetteth forth God's mercy and vengeance: 46 he exhorteth them to fet their hearts upon it.

Give eat, ye heavens, and I will speak;

and hear, O carth, the words of my mouth.

My doctrine fhall drop as the rain, my fpeech fhall diftil as the dew; as the fmall rain upon the tender herb, and as the thowers upon the grafs;

3 Because I will publish the same of the LORD; afcribe ye greatness unto our God. 4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect; for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth, and without iniquity, juft and right is he.

5 They have corrupted themfelves; their fpot is not the fpet of his children: they are a perverfe and crooked generation.

6 Do ye thus requite the LORD? O foolish people and unwife is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?

7 Remember the days of old, confider the years of many generations: afk thy fa ther, and he will thew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee;

8 When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he feparated the fons of Adum, he fet the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Ifrael.

9 For the LORDS portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

10 He found lum in a defert land, and in the wafte howling wilderness: he led him about, he instructed him, he kept liiin as the apple of his eye.

11 As an cagle tirreth up her nett, Ruttereth over her young, fpreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings;

12 So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no ftrange god with him.

13 He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields, and he made him to fuck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; 14 Butter of kine, and milk of theep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bafhan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and thou didit drink the pure blood

of the grape.

15 But Jefhurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatnefs. then he forfook God which made him, and lightly e#teemed the Rock of his falvation.

16 They provoked him to jealoufy with Arange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.

17They facrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that cainenewly up, whom your fathers feared not.

[blocks in formation]

21 They have moved me to jealoufy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealonly with those which ar

not a people, I will provoke them to anger

with a foolish nation.

22 For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and fhall burn unto the lowest hell, and fhall con fume the earth with her increase, and let os fire the foundations of the mountains.

231 will heap mifchiefs upon them; I st fpend mine arrows upon them.

24 They shall be burnt with hunger, and d voured with burning heat, and with bitter de ftruction: I will allo fend the teeth of beaftr upon them, with the poifon of ferpents the duft.

25 The fword without, and terror within, thall deftroy both the young man and the virgin, the fuckling alfa, with the man ef grey hairs.

26 I faid, I would fcatter them into com ers, I would make the remembrance of the to ecafe from among men :

27 Were it not that I feared the wrath the enemy, let their adverfaries should have themfelvestrangely, andleft they should fay, Our hand is high, and the LORD hath not done all this.

28 For they are a nation void of counte, neither is there any understanding in them. 29 0 that they were wife, that they under flood this, that they would confider their lat ter end!

30 How fhould one chafe a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except the Rock had fold them, and the LORD had th them up!

31 For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themfelves being judges.

32 For their vine is of the vine of Sodam, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grape are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitters

33 Their wine is the poifon of dragons, and the cruel venom of alps.

34 s not this laid up in flore with me, fealed up among my treatures?

35 To me belangeth vengeance and recom pence; their foot thall fide in due timer the day of their calamity is at hand, así De things that thall come upon them make hart.

36. For the LORD fhall julge his people, and repent himself for his fervants; he he feeth that their power is gone, and 196 is none fhut up or left.

37 And he thall fay, Where are theis gode their rock in whom they troited:

38 Which did eat the fat of their Lacrifiém. and drank the witte of their drink-offering let them rife up and help you, and be you protection.

39 See now that I, even 1, am he, and the is ñogad with me : i klil, and i make alintaa

tad he laid unto them, Set your hearts the words which I testify among you by which ye thall command your chilbferve, to do all the words of this law. For it is not a vain thing for you; be your life: and through this thing prolong your days in the land whi jego aver Jordan to pollefs it. 41 And the LORD Ipake unto Mofes that Hame day, faying

Get thee up into this mountainAbarim, Nebo, which is in the land of over againit Jericho, and bethe land of Canaan, which I give unto children of Ifrael for a posseffion: And die in the mount whither thou goand be gathered unto thy people; as thy brother died in mount Hor, and thered unto his people:

canle ye trefpated againft me among diren af fract at the waters of Meri sich, in the wildernefs of Zin; befanctified rac not in the midit of dren of lirael.

Tet the halt fee the land before thee; ehut not go thither unto the land give the children of Ifracl.

CHAP. XXXI They of God. 6 The blefings of the ties, 16 The excellency of Ifrael. this is the bleffing, wherewith Mofes the man of Gou bleed the children of Helore his death.

26 There is none like unto the God of Jetharun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the iky.

27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlafting arms: and he fhall thruft out the enemy from before thee, and thall fay, Deftroy them.

28 Ifrael then thall twell in safety alone the fountain of Jacob Shall be upon a land of corn and wine; alfo his heavens fhall drop

down dew.
