to go on, and at length determined me to tranf late the whole book of Pfalms once more. That done, first for my improvement, and afterwards in hopes that they might be useful, I turned the whole into verse, (one of which being useless to a Chriftian congregation, I omitted printing, and another was by the Printer overlooked) for the more efpecial use of such Chriftians whose eyes are by the divine spirit enlightened, to see the fuperabounding love of the Father manifested by the gift of his Son for the redemption, salvation, and final glorification of the whole of those unhappy beings whom fin has, or may yet draw from the allegiance, duty, and obedience due to their Creator. To all others into whose hands this new verfion of holy David's Pfalms may fall, I say!Candidly pardon the involuntary errors of the press, and the meanness of the verse; condemn not the fentiments, although you should find it contain doctrines somewhat different from what you may have been accustomed to hear from the pulpits you have hitherto fat under. Remember we have a promise, that "in the latter days knowledge should be increased;" and as the doctrines herein contained (however new they may appear to you) have a direct tendency to a more illustrious display of the everlasting, unchangeable love of God, our heavenly Father, strikingly manifested in the life, actions, sufferings, and bloody death of his only begotten and most dearly be. loved Son, Christ Jesus our Lord, who lay in the bofom of his Father; whom yet he freely gave up up to all kinds of fufferings, and an accursed death, that the Captain of Salvation, being made perfect by fuffering, he might, through death, destroy him that had the power of death (that is the devil) and thereby become the Saviour and Restorer of all. As this view of the Gospel terminates in fo glorious a profpect, neither condemn nor reject it, on account of the very extensive scale on which the glorious work of Redemption is fet forth to your view. At least, do it not in haste; First, prove that he came not to save the worldThat he gave not his life a ransom for all-That he has not tasted death for all-That he will not destroy the works of Satan-That he will not deliver the creature from the bondage of corruption-That he made not peace by the blood of the cross, in order to reconcile All unto the Father, whether they be things of earthly or heavenly (original) - That the Father will not gather together All in Chrift. In short, till you can do this, and much more, charity ought to restrain every rifing thought of opposition, to lead you to a calm difcuffion of the fubject, and fill your minds with fear, left ye should be found rejecting the most glorious of all the truths of the Gofpel. That the Father of Mercies may bless you and all mankind with greater light and knowledge of divine things: That the Saviour of the World may manifeft more of his love to you, to me, and all who profess his name: That he will be gracioufly pleased to smile on these my labours, and make a 3 make them instrumental to his own glory, and Your's, IN OUR COMMON LORD, THE AUTHOR.
