St. David. C.M.

RAVENSCROFT's Whole Book of Psalms, 1621; modified by PLAYFORD, 1671.

A-men.

I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.-Rom. i. 16.

mf 310 I'M not ashamed to own my Lord,mf3 Firm as His throne His promise stands,

Or to defend His cause;

Maintain the honour of His word,

The glory of His cross.

f 2 Jesus, my Lord; I know His name,
His name is all my trust;
Nor will He put my soul to shame,
Nor let my hope be lost.

And He can well secure

What I've committed to His hands,
Till the decisive hour.

f4 Then will He own my worthless name
Before His Father's face;
And in the new Jerusalem
Appoint my soul a place. Amen.

LORD, I hear of showers of mp 4 Pass me not, O mighty Spirit!

blessing,

Thou art scattering full and free-
Showers the thirsty land refreshing,
Let some drops descend on me-
Even me.
mp 2 Pass me not, O gracious Father!
Sinful though my heart may be:
Thou might'st leave me, but the rather
Let Thy mercy light on me-
Even me.
mp3 Pass me not, O tender Saviour!
Let me love and cling to Thee;
I am longing for Thy favour;
When Thou comest, call for me-
Even me.

A-men.

Master, where dwellest Thou?-John i. 88.

mf 312 MASTER, where abidest Thou? mf 3 Master, where abidest Thou?

Lamb of God, 'tis Thee we seek;

For the wants which press us now
Other aid is all too weak.

dim Canst Thou take our sins away,
May we find repose in Thee?

cr From the gracious lips to-day,

As of old, breathes, "Come and see."

mf 2 Master, where abidest Thou?

We would leave the past behind; We would scale the mountain's brow, Learning more Thy heavenly mind. dim Still a look is all our lore,

The transforming look to Thee: cr From the living Truth once more Breathes the answer, "Come and see."

dim

cr

How shall we Thine image best
Bear in light upon our brow,

Stamp in love upon our breast?
Still a look is all our might;

Looking draws the heart to Thee,
Sends us from the absorbing sight,
With the message, "Come and see."

mp 4 Master, where abidest Thou?

All the springs of life are low;
Sin and grief our spirits bow,
And we wait Thy call to go.
cr From the depths of happy rest,

Where the just abide with Thee,
From the voice which makes them blest,
Comes the summons," Come and see."

mf314 No; not despairingly

Come I to Thee!

No; not distrustingly,

Bend I the knee!

dim Sin hath gone over me, Yet is this still my pleaJesus hath died.

mp 2 Ah! mine iniquity

Crimson hath been; Infinite, infinite,

Sin upon sin

;

Sin of not loving Thee,
Sin of not trusting Thee,
Infinite sin.

p3 Lord I confess to Thee
Sadly my sin;

All I am tell I Thee,

All I have been.

cr Purge Thou my sin away, Wash Thou my soul this day, Lord, make me clean.

mf 4 Faithful and just art Thou,
Forgiving all:

Loving and kind art Thou,
When poor ones call:
Lord, let the cleansing blood,
Blood of the Lamb of God
dim Pass o'er my soul

f 5 Then all is peace and light
This soul within;

Thus shall I walk with Thee,
The loved unseen:

Leaning on Thee my God,

Guided along the road,

Nothing between. Amen.

I am the Lord that healeth thee.-Exod. xv. 26.

EAL us, Immanuel! hear our
prayer;

We wait to feel Thy touch;
Deep-wounded souls to Thee repair,
dim And, Saviour, we are such.

2 Our faith is feeble, we confess; We faintly trust Thy word;

cr But wilt Thou pity us the less? Be that far from Thee, Lord. mp3 Remember him who once applied With trembling for relief:"Lord, I believe," with tears he cried,"Help Thou my unbelief!"

press,

4 She, too, who touched Thee in the
And healing virtue stole,
Was answered,-" Daughter, go in peace,
Thy faith hath made thee whole."
5 Concealed amid the gathering throng,
She would have shunned Thy view;
And if her faith was firm and strong,
Had strong misgivings too.

cr 6 Like her, with hopes and fears we come,
To touch Thee, if we may;
Oh! send us not despairing home;
Send none unhealed away. Amen.

There wrestled a man with him till break of day.-Gen. xxxii. 24.

mf317 COME, Othou traveller unknown,

Whom still I hold, but cannot
My company before is gone, [see;
And I am left alone with Thee :
With Thee all night I mean to stay,
And wrestle till the break of day.

dim 2 I need not tell Thee who I am,
My misery or sin declare:

Be conquered by my instant prayer;
Speak, or Thou never hence shalt move,
And tell me if Thy name is Love.

f6 'Tis Love! 'tis Love! Thou diedst for me!
I hear Thy whisper in my heart;
The morning breaks, the shadows flee;
Pure, universal Love thou art.

Thyself hast called me by my name,
Look on Thy hands, and read it there!
But who, I ask Thee, who art Thou?
Tell me Thy name, and tell me now.

mf 3 In vain Thou strugglest to get free,
I never will unloose my hold:
Art Thou the Man that died for me?
The secret of Thy love unfold.
Wrestling, I will not let Thee go,
Till I Thy name, Thy nature know.

[blocks in formation]

7

To me, to all, Thy mercies move,

Thy nature and Thy name is Love.

I know Thee, Saviour, who Thou art-
Jesus, the feeble sinner's friend:

Nor wilt Thou with the night depart,
But stay and love me to the end;
Thy mercies never shall remove,
Thy nature and Thy name is Love.

8 The Sun of Righteousness on me
Hath rose, with healing in His wings;
Withered my nature's strength, from Thee
My soul, its life, and succour brings:
My help is all laid up above:
Thy nature and Thy name is Love.

9 Lame as I am, I take the prey,
Hell, earth, and sin, with ease o'ercome;
I leap for joy, pursue my way,
And as a bounding hart fly home.
Through all eternity to prove
Thy nature and Thy name is Love.

Amen.
