Though remorseless disease rob my cheek of its bloom, And my youth doom to pain or to sorrow; May it ne'er chill my heart with despondency's gloom, That would whisper no hope for the morrow. That, alas! would affliction's sweet solace deny, In Thy mercy, O God! bid me trust, or I die! When assailed by temptations to evil or good,- That the good be my choice, and oh ne'er be withstood, Grant me patience, O Father! my trials to bear And let faith in my heart be engraven ; Ah! let charity prompt me with others to share The bright hope which shall guide me to heaven.
