The righteous cried, and the Lord heard,

And delivered them out of all their troubles.

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart,

And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous:

But the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

He keepeth all his bones:

Not one of them is broken.

Evil shall slay the wicked:

And they that hate the righteous shall be condemned.
The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants:

And none of them that trust in him shall be condemned.

PSALM XXXVI.

The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart,
There is no fear of God before his eyes.

For he flattereth himself in his own eyes,

That his iniquity shall not be found out and be hated.
The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit :
He hath left off to be wise and to do good.

He deviseth iniquity upon his bed;

He setteth himself in a way that is not good;
He abhorreth not evil.

Thy lovingkindness, O Lord, is in the heavens;

Thy faithfulness reacheth unto the skies.
Thy righteousness is like the mountains of God;

Thy judgements are a great deep:

O Lord, thou preservest man and beast.

How precious is thy lovingkindness, O God!

And the children of men take refuge under the shadow of thy

wings.

They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy

house;

And thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. For with thee is the fountain of life:

In thy light shall we see light.

O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; And thy righteousness to the upright in heart.

Let not the foot of pride come against me,

And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.
There are the workers of iniquity fallen:

They are thrust down, and shall not be able to rise.

PSALM XXXVII.

Fret not thyself because of evil-doers,

Neither be thou envious against them that work unrighteous

ness.

For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,

And wither as the green herb.

Trust in the Lord, and do good;

Dwell in the land, and follow after faithfulness.

Delight thyself also in the Lord;

And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Commit thy way unto the Lord;

Trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass.

And he shall make thy righteousness to go forth as the light, And thy judgement as the noonday.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him :

Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Cease from anger, and forsake wrath:

Fret not thyself, it tendeth only to evil-doing.

For evil-doers shall be cut off:

But those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the land. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be:

Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and he shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the land;

And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plotteth against the just,

And gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

The Lord shall laugh at him:

For he seeth that his day is coming.

The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their

bows;

To cast down the poor and needy,

To slay such as be upright in the way:

Their sword shall enter into their own heart,

And their bows shall be broken.

Better is a little that the righteous hath
Than the abundance of many wicked.

For the arms of the wicked shall be broken:
But the Lord upholdeth the righteous.

The Lord knoweth the days of the perfect :
And their inheritance shall be for ever.

They shall not be ashamed in the time of evil:

And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

But the wicked shall perish,

And the enemies of the Lord shall be as the excellency of

the pastures:

They shall consume; in smoke shall they consume away. The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again:

But the righteous dealeth graciously, and giveth.

For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the land;

And they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

A man's goings are established of the Lord;
And he delighteth in his way.

Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down:

For the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.

I have been young, and now am old;

Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor his seed begging their bread.

All the long day he dealeth graciously, and lendeth;
And his seed is blessed.

Depart from evil, and do good;
And dwell for evermore.

For the Lord loveth judgement,
And forsaketh not his saints;

They are preserved for ever:

But the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
The righteous shall inherit the land,

And dwell therein for ever.

The mouth of the righteous talketh of wisdom,
And his tongue speaketh judgement.

The law of his God is in his heart;
None of his steps shall slide.

The wicked watcheth the righteous,

And seeketh to slay him.

The Lord will not leave him in his hand,

Nor condemn him when he is judged.

Wait on the Lord, and keep his way,

And he shall exalt thee to inherit the land:

When the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

I have seen the wicked in great power,

And spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. But one passed by, and lo, he was not:

Yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright:
For the latter end of that man is peace.

As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together:
The latter end of the wicked shall be cut off.

But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord:

He is their strong hold in the time of trouble.
And the Lord helpeth them, and rescueth them:
He rescueth them from the wicked, and saveth them,
Because they have taken refuge in him.

PSALM XXXIX.

I said, I will take heed to my ways,
That I sin not with my tongue:

I will keep my mouth with a bridle,
While the wicked is before me.

I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good;
And my sorrow was stirred.

My heart was hot within me;

While I was musing the fire kindled
Then spake I with my tongue :

Lord, make me to know mine end,

And the measure of my days, what it is;

Let me know how frail I am.

Behold, thou hast made my days as handbreadths;
And mine age is as nothing before thee:

Surely every man at his best estate is altogether vanity.
Surely every man walketh in a vain show:

Surely they are disquieted in vain :

He heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them And now, Lord, what wait I for?

My hope is in thee.

Deliver me from all my transgressions:
Make me not the reproach of the foolish.

I was dumb, I opened not my mouth;
Because thou didst it.
