needle work, and the five pillars of it were overlaid with gold.

And Bezaleel made the ark, or holy chest, of shittim-wood, and overlaid it with gold within and without, and made a crown of gold to it round about: ana rings of gold on the sides of it; and staves of shittimwood, overlaid with gold to put into the rings, to bear the ark.

And he made the mercy-seat of pure gold, to put on the top of the ark. And he made two cherubims of gold on the two ends of the mercy-seat. And the wings of the cherubims were spread out on high on the mercy-seat: and the faces of the cherubims were towards each other.

*For the Lord said unto Moses, when he gave commandment concerning these things, Thou shalt put the mercy-seat above upon the ark: and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.

And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy-seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

And Bezaleel made the table of shittim-wood, and overlaid it with gold. And he made the candlestick of pure gold, with six branches growing out of the sides thereof, three on one side, and three on the other. And he made the incense altar, and the altar for burnt offerings, and all the vessels of the altar.

And of the blue, and purple, and scarlet, they made holy garments for Aaron. And they made coats of fine linen of wove work for Aaron and his

sons.

Thus was all the work of the tabernacle finished.

Exodus, chap. xxv. verse 21, 23.

And Moses did look upon the work: and, behold, they had done it according to the commandment of the Lord. And Moses blessed them.

18 And Moses reared up the tabernacle, and fastened his sockets, and set up the boards thereof, and put in the bars thereof, and reared up his pillars. And he spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as the Lord commanded Moses.

20 And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staves on the ark, and put the mercy-seat above upon the ark: And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the vail of the covering, and covered the ark of the testimony; as the Lord commanded Moses.

22 And he put the table in the tent of the congregation, upon the side of the tabernacle northward, without the vail. Thus it came to pass, in the first month, in the second year, in the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up.

34 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

LESSON LXI. LEVITICUS, CHAP. VIII. IX. XXVI. NUMBERS, CHAP. I.

AND the Lord commanded Moses to consecrate Aaron and his sons for the priest's offices; and he did so. And Moses put upon Aaron the high priest's garments, and anointed Aaron with oil to sanctify him. And Moses offered the sacrifices which the Lord commanded.

And Aaron and his sons did all things that the Lord commanded them: seven days they abode at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And on the eighth day, Aaron offered sacrifices as the high priest.

22 And Aaron lifted up his hand toward the people, and blessed them, and came down from offering of the sin offering, and the burnt offering, and peaceofferings.

23 And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people and the glory of the Lord appeared unto all the people.

24 And there came a fire out from before the Lord, and consumed upon the altar the burnt-offering and the fat.

And the Lord made many judgments, and statutes, and laws, for his people Israel in Mount Sinai, and Moses declared them unto the people.

And the Lord said, Ye shall make no idol, nor graven image, nor image of stone in your land, to bow down to it; I am the Lord your God. Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.

1 And the Lord spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

2 Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls;

3 From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies. And with you there shall be a man of every tribe, every one head of the

house of his fathers.

19 So Moses numbered them in the wilderness of

Sinai and all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand five hundred and fifty.

47 But the Levites, after the tribe of their fathers, were not numbered among them. For the Lord had spoken unto Moses, saying, Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel;

50 But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

51 And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

52 And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, throughout their hosts. But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony.

53 And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so did they.

LESSON LXII. NUMBERS, CHAP. IX. X.

AND the Lord spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

2 Let the children of Israel also keep the passover at his appointed season. And they kept the passover

on the fourteenth day of the first month at ever. in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.

15 And on the day the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony; and at even there was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until the morning,

16 So it was alway: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night. And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents.

18 At the commandment of the Lord the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the Lord they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.

19 And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the Lord, and journeyed not.

20 And so it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the commandment of the Lord they abode in their tents, and according to the commandment of the Lord they journeyed.

21 And so it was, when the cloud abode from even unto the morning, and that the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether it was by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.

22 Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, re maining thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up they journeyed.

23 At the commandment of the Lord they rested in their tents, and at the commandment of the Lord
