4 A fable full of truth to me Like hay that strews the vale; The scythe of death may fall; HUMILITY. 1 Down in a green and shady bed, Its stalk was bent, it hung its head, 2 And yet it was a lovely flower, 3 Yet there it was content to bloom, In modest tints array'd; And there diffused a sweet perfume, 4 Then let me to the valley go, That I may also learn to grow MEEKNESS OF CHRIST. 1 WHAT a strange and wondrous story From the book of God is read; How the Lord of life and glory Had not where to lay His head. 2 How he left His throne in heaven 3 If I worship God who gave me Life, and health, and all things here, Should not He, who died to save me, 4 Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour, Let me not ungrateful be; Let words and my behaviour Prove I love and honour Thee. 5 Father! let Thy Holy Spirit Still reveal a Saviour's love; And prepare me to inherit Glory where He reigns above. 6 There, with saints and angels dwelling, May I that great love proclaim; And with them be ever telling All the wonders of his name. JESUS OUR SAVIOUR. 1 How sweet the name of Jesus sounds In a believer's ear! It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds, 2 It makes the wounded spirit whole, 3 Dear name, the rock on which I build, 4 By Thee my prayers acceptance gain, Although with sin defiled;" Satan accuses me in vain, And I am own'd Thy child. 5 Jesus, my Shepherd, Husband, Friend, 6 Weak is the effort of my heart, And cold my warmest thought; 7 Till then I would Thy love proclaim With ev'ry fleeting breath; And may the mem'ry of Thy name PRAISE TO GOD. 1 LET us with a gladsome mind 2 He, with all-commanding might, 3 All things living He doth feed; 4 He His chosen race did bless 5 He hath, with a piteous eye, 6 Let us, then, with gladsome mind, PRAISE TO CHRIST. 1 ALL hail the power of Jesu's name! 2 Ye saints redeem'd of Adam's race, And crown Him, Lord of all. 3 Let every kindred, every tribe On this terrestrial ball, To Him all Majesty ascribe, And crown Him, Lord of all. 4 O that with yonder sacred throng We at His feet may fall; Join in the everlasting song, And crown Him, Lord of all. grace ! |
