causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple. By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea. They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at thy tokens: thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice. Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it. Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof. Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness. They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness and the little hills rejoice on every side. The pas

tures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy. -Ps. lxv. 1, &c.

We thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will show forth thy praise to all generations.-Ps. lxxix. 13.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.-Luke ii. 14.

A KING'S, OR COMMANDER'S, FOR VICTORY.

I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them. And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet. For thou hast girded me with strength to battle them that rose up

against me hast thou subdued. given me the necks of mine

might destroy them that hate me. but there was none to save; Lord, but he answered them not. Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad. Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen. The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation. It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me, and that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou hast also lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me thou hast delivered me from the

violent man.

Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and I will

sing praises unto thy name. He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.-2 Sam. xxii. 38.

GENERAL THANKSGIVINGS.

I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto God. He is the rock, his work is perfect for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.-Deut. xxxii. 3.

:

Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people. -Deut. xxxii. 43.

My heart rejoiceth in the Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord; my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. There is none holy as the Lord : for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. The

Lord killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich he bringeth low, and lifteth up. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the Lord's, and he hath set the world upon them. He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them the Lord shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.-1 Sam. ii. 1.

Blessed be the Lord, that hath pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of and hath kept his servant from evil: for the Lord hath returned the wickedness of upon his own head.-1 Sam. xxv. 39.

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; the God of my rock; in him will I trust he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my Saviour; thou savest me from violence. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my

God and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears. Thou art my lamp, O Lord: and the Lord will lighten my darkness. For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God? God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hind's feet and setteth me upon my high places. He teacheth my hands to war. Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation and thy gentleness hath made me great. Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.-2 Sam. xxii. 2.

Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.-1 Kings x. 8.

He is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. -2 Chron. vii. 3.

Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever.-2 Chron. xx. 21.

Blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise. Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the
