Firm as a rock thy truth must stand,
When rolling years fhall cease to move.

WATTS. 曇

CCCCXVII. A blessing implored.

I TOW may the Spirit's holy fire,
Defcending from above,

His waiting family infpire,

With joy, and peace, and love!

2 Wake, heav'nly wind, arife, and come,
Blow on the drooping field;
Our fpices then fhall breathe perfume,
And fragrant incenfe yield."

3 Touch with a living coal the lip,
That fhall proclaim thy word;
And bid us all devoutly keep
Attention to the Lord.

WHITFIELD'S C.

CCCCXVIII. Waiting to be blessed.
ATHER of love, to thee I bend

FAT My heart, and lift mine eyes;

O let my prayer and praise afcend
As odours to the skies.

2 Thy pard'ning voice I come to hear,
To know thee as thou art :
Thy minifters may reach the ear,
But thou can't touch the heart.

3 O ftamp me in thy heav'nly mould,
And grant thy word, applied,

May bring forth fruit an hundred fold,
And speak me justified.

oufness.

"APPY they who humbly dread
The glorious King of kings:
He on them his beams fhall fhed,
And cherish with his wings.
2. Sun of righteoufnefs, arife,

My trembling heart to chear;
Thou, whofe glory fills the skies,
Be manifefted here.

3 Chafe the darknefs of my mind,
My unbelief remove;

Heal my foul, difeas'd, and blind,
By heav'nly light and love.

CCCCXX. Waiting for divine unction.

I COURCE of light and pow'r divine,
So
Deign upon thy truth to shine;

Lord, behold thy fervant ftands,
Lo, to thee he lifts his hands:
Satisfy his foul's defire,

Touch his lips with holy fire!
Source of light and pow'r divine,
Deign upon thy truth to fhine.
2 Breathe thy fpirit, fo fhall fall
Unction fweet upon us all;
'Till, by odours fcatter'd round,
Chrift himself be trac'd and found;
Then fhall ev'ry raptur❜d heart
Rich in peace and joy depart:
Source of light and truth divine,
Deign upon thy truth to shine..

CCCCXXI. Waiting to be fed.

[ocr errors]

ONFIRM the hope thy word allows,
Behold us waiting to be fed ;

Blefs the provifion of thy house,
And fatisfy thy poor with bread:
Drawn by thine invitation, Lord,
Thirfty and hungry we are come;
Now from the fulness of thy word,
O feaft, and fend us thankful home.

CCCCXXII. Looking for a blessing. NOW, Lord, infpire the preacher's heart, And teach his tongue to speak ;

Food to the hungry foul impart,

And cordials to the weak.

2 Furnish us all with light and pow'rs, To walk in wifdom's ways;

I

So fhall the benefit be ours,

And thou fhalt have the praise.

CCCCXXIII. Before hearing the word.

YE that in his courts are found,

Lift'ning to the gofpel found,

Loft and helpless as ye are,.
Sons of forrow, fin, and care,
Glorify the King of kings,
Take the peace the gofpel brings.

2 Turn to Chrift your longing eyes;
View his bloody facrifice;

See, in him, your fins forgiv'n,
Pardon, holinefs, and heav'n..
Glorify the King of kings,

Take the peace the Gospel brings.

CCCCXXIV. A bleffing requested. COME, thou foul transforming Spirit,

I

Blefs the fower and the feed:

Let each heart thy grace inherit,
Raife the weak, the hungry feed
From the Gofpel,

1;

Now fupply thy people's need.
2 Help us all to afk the bleffing
Which thou waiteft now to give ;
May we all, thy love poffeffing,
Joyfully the truth receive.
And for ever

To thy praife and glory live.
3 Then, whene'er the fignal's given
Us from earth to call away,
Borne on Angel's wing to heav'n
Glad the fummons to obey,
May we ever,

Reign with Chrift in endless day.

CCCCXXV. A prayer for minifter and

people.

To proclaim thy wond'rous love!
Pour thy grace upon this people,
That thy truth they may approve:
Blefs, O blefs them,

From thy fhining courts above.
2 Now thy gracious word invites them
To partake the gofpel feaft:
Let thy Spirit fweetly draw them
Ev'ry foul be Jefu's guest!
O receive

us,

Let us find thy promis'd reft.

SECTION IV.

To be fung AFTER SERMON.

CCCCXXVI. After Sermon.
OME, ye mourning, pardon'd finners,
Bring your humble, grateful lays,

Help to fing our Jefu's merits,

Help to chaunt Immanuel's praise,
Friend of finners!

Thee we laud for richest grace.
2 O what grace haft thou difplayed!
O what mercy haft thou shewn!
When to die for vileft rebels

Thou didft leave thy blifsful throne!
Bleeding Saviour!

Melt, O melt our hearts of ftone.
3 Come, ye finners, come to Jefus,
Think upon your gracious Lord;
He has pity'd your condition,
He has fent his gospel word:
Mercy calls you,

Mercy flows from Jefu's blood.

TOPLADY'S C:.

CCCCXXVII. After Sermon.

ND will the Lord thus condefcend
To vifit finful worms?

Thus at the door fhall mercy ftand,
In all her winning forms.

2 Surprizing grace !-and fhall my heart
Unmov'd and cold remain ?

Has this hard rock no tender part?
Muft mercy plead in vain ?.
