EATON'S

Standard Series of Arithmetics.

Teachers and School Committees who are dissatisfied with the books on Arithmetic now in use, are cordially invited to examine this new and excellent series, lately prepared by JAMES S. EATON, A. M., Principal of the English Department of Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass.

I. Eaton's Primary Arithmetic..

Handsomely illustrated with original cuts.

II. Eaton's Intellectual Arithmetic.

In press. On the plan of Warren Colburn's First Lessons (which now. occupies this place in the series). Improved.

III. Eaton's Common School Arithmetic.
For Grammar and Common Schools.

IV. Eaton's Treatise on Written Arithmetic.
For High Schools and Academies.

The three books of this series. already published, the Primary,. the Common School, and Treatise, are now in use in many of the best schools in all parts of the country, and have been found to produce the best results in the school-room. Text-books, and those on Arithmetic especially, which are badly arranged, wordy, and indistinct in expression of definitions and rules, ambiguous, crooked and puzzling in their manner of presenting subjects and stating examples, wear cut the patience of both teachers and pupils, and produce the poorest results in scholarship, with great waste of time and labor.

It is economy to use the best text-book on Arithmetic, those which are clear, accurate, logical and distinct in expression, free from useless, ambiguous and misleading words and statements, and those which are pointed and practical.

The best schools, and the highest and most profitable style of teaching can not be attained without the use of such books. Such. are Eaton's Standard Series of Arithmetics. They have recently been adopted for the Public Schools of Boston, Worcester, and many other cities and towns, where the best schools are maintained, in New England and the West. They have also lately been adopted by the Board of Education for the State of California, and their use there is required by law. Many testimonials of their higher character and value, and the excellent practical reault obtained by the use of them, can be seen if desired.

Teachers and School Committees are invited to call at No. 29 Cornhill, and obtain copies for examination; or they will be supplied by mail, on receipt of postage-Primary 4c.; Intellectual (in press) 8c.; Common School and Treatise, 16c. each.

Favorable terms for first introduction.
