XVII. Of the Surrender of the Heart to Jesus, 297.* T. 582. Have sav'd and rescu'd me; And how thy cleansing blood, Hath brought me nigh to God: Amaz'd at grace so free, Bestow'd on such a wretched worm, Who felt such racking pain, And ask, “ How can it be, While he the vengeance due to me That sinners base and vile Did willingly sustain: Should be so greatly lovod, 2 To him I wholly give Who cost thee so much pain and grief, And so ungrateful prov'd ?? Hath kept with watchful care; Thy great compassion never fail'd, What's pleasing in his sight, Thou heardst my needy pray'ı; And from me take whate'er him grieves, This makes me firmly trust Whate'er he sees not right. That thou wilt guide me still, ☆ How very weak I am, And guard me safe throughout the way That leads to Zion's Hill. My worthless heart to thee; And whether cheerful or distress'd, To thee I must appeals Thine, thine alone I'll be: My numberless infirmities My only aim is this O kindly haste to heal! (O may I it fulfil !) 4 In thy most precious blood, Thee to exalt with all my strength, Which from thy open'd yeins, And do thy holy will. To heal my soul in plenty flow'd, I pray wash out my stains : 22. It is thy daily care, O GOD of mercy, l, grace and love! Thy helpless sheep to feed; Thy yearning bowels did thee move, To purify their spotted souls, To call me from death's gloomy night And gently them to lead. Into thy own amazing light. 5 Redeemer of my soul ! 2 I once was wholly dead in sin, Whene'er thereon I think, Wholly corrupt and spoild within, How thy compassion, love and grace, The carnal mind still bore the sway, From sin and hell's dark brink And hurry'd me a slave away. 298.* 3 It caus'd thee pain, O Son of God, 3 Jesus cur'd my soul's infection From his death and fesurrection, I by virtue of his merit prest, When I'm weak he strengthens me, 5 Now, thro' thy wounds my soul hath Sweetens all my tribulation, And supports me constantly: Are the cause of my salvation; Therefore Christ shall ne'er depart 6 I thee adure, my gracious King, From my sight and from my heart. And joyful Hallelujahs sing, 5 O! I'm lost in deepest wonder, My eyes with grateful tears o'erflow, To think he shall soon appear To receive me gladly yonder, T. 22. We pray thee, wounded Lambof God! 9 Thus by thy pow'r I here shall be Cleanse us in thy atoning blood! Grant us by faith to view thy cross, 2 Take our poor hearts, and let them be For ever clos'd to all but thee! Who laid down his life for me: That pledge of love for ever there. 3 What are our works but sin & death, Own'd mé as his property : Conscious of my imperfection, Till thou thy quick’ning Spirit breathe! Until we strength from thee derive, And in communion with thee live. 4 Ah, Lord! enlarge our scanty thought, Toknow the wondersthou hastwrought; 2 Others may seek satisfaction Unloose our stamm’ring tongues to tell Thy love immense, unsearchable. 5 First-born of many brethren thou! Oh, when shall all my wand'rings end, DIDST thou, Lord Jesus, me incline, And all my wishes to thee tend | When I was lost and dead in sin, 4 Is there a thing beneath the sun, To hear thy quick’ning voice? That strives with thee my heart to Have I obtained in thy blood share? Redemption,and found peacewithGod? Ah! tear it thence, and be alone And do I in thy name rejoice? The spring of ev'ry motion there: Then shall 2 O yes, I feel I am forgiv'n, my heart from earth be free, A foretaste I enjoy of heav'n When it hath found repose in thee. Thy Spirit witness bears; 303.* By faith thy righteousness is mine, I'm well-assur'd that I am thine, TAKE, Lord, all self from me, that I No more, live! 3 Yet 'fore thee, Jesus, I must own, My vile affections crucify, : I have not this salvation known Let not one darling lust survive : By tracing legal ways; O may my heart to thee aşpire, No!'twas rhy pow'r rais'd me from sin, And nought on earth but thee desire. Thou didst the saving work begin; 2 Dear Lord, thy sov'reign aid impart, Thine be the glory, thine the praise, To save me from low-thoughted care; O banish self-will from my heart, 4 May I be faithful to thy call, From all its latent mazes there; And grant, that I may never move From the blest footsteps of thy love. Invincible may 3 Each moment draw from earth away And never from thy will decline. My heart that humbly waits thy call: 5 Me with thy gladd’ning oil anoint; "I am thy life, ihy God, thy all." Speak to my inmost soul and say, Thy love to taste, thy voice to hear, Bedew me with a genial show'r, Thy pow'r to prove, is all my pray’r . Into my heart thy influence pour, And me with heav'nly manna feed. 304. T. 9o. Again thy loving-kindness prove, OGop!whose love(immense in height, And all within me pants anew In depth unfathom'd) no man knows; T' enjoy thy all reviving love: Grant unto me thy saving light, Again my thoughts to thee aspire, Inly I sigh for thy repose; Unto thy name is my desire, My heart is pain'd, nor can it be 2 But O! what off’ring shall I give At rest, till it finds rest in thee. To thee, the Lord of earth and skies? 2 Thy gracious call invites me still, My soul and body now receive How light thy burden is, to prove; A holy, living sacrifice; Yet I'm unsteady ; tho' my will 'Tis all I have to offer thee; Be fix'd, yet wide my passions rove;o take me as thy property. Great hindrances obstruct the way, 3 O may I never from thee stray, I aim at thee, yet from thee stray. Or be again subdu'd by sin ; 3 Mere mercy'tis that thou hast brought Guide me, my life, my truth, my way, My soul to seek its peace in thee; Thy blood preserve mygarmentclean, Yet while I seek, but find thee not, O let thy blood and righteousness Alrest my wand'ring mind can't be ;| My beauty be, my glorious dress. 309.* Thy grace me that! - live! 305.* e: sire. part , care; word; Send down thy likeness from above, 2 I thank thee, that in mercy thou Arous'd me out of sin's deep sleep, And calld to walk in faith. grace, light: And listen to that small still voice, That I may faithful prove, Which whispers only love. my works be thou the aim: 4. Which teacheth me what is thy will, And tells me what to do; Do not thy will pursue. I ever feel, And learn obedience to thy voice, "Give me thy heart, and listen to my Thy soft reviving word. 308. In foll'wing thee I cannot miss aven; Thy word be my unerring guide; Or stray from thee my Sayiour. 3 Thou art the Truth, in thee I've found Thee I desire to love and praise, All that which is essential; Without thee, all is empty sound, Since thy great love and boundless grace In thee is strength substantial : Are ev'ry thing unto me, O Truth!: set me at liberty, 2 Thou art the Way, thy Spirit is That I depend on none but thee, As my Conductor given; By whom I can be healed. |
