Q. Can nothing happen without his Providence? A. No, Matth. x. 29, 30. Are not two Sparrows fold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very Hairs of your Head are all numbred. Prov. xvi. 33. The lot is caft into the lap; but the whole difpofing thereof is of the Lord. Exod. xxi. 13. And if a Man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand, then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee. Deut. xix. 4, 5. And this is the cafe of the flayer which fhall flee thither that he may live; Whofo killeth his Neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past, as when a Man goeth into the Wood with his Neighbour, to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the Ax to cut down the Tree, and the Head flippeth from the Helve, and lighteth upon his Neighbour that he die; he shall flee unto one of thofe Cities, and live.

Q. What ufe is to be made of this?

A. 1. To thank God for all things we have, I Thef. v.18. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

2. To fubmit to his Will, 1 Sam. iii. 18. And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he faid, it is the Lord: let him do what feemeth him good. Job i. 21. And Fob faid, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; Bleffed be the name of the Lord.

3. To love and please him, Rom. viii. 28. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

O. Who is he that is here called Fefus?

A. Our Saviour.

Q. When

Q. When was this Name given him?

A. At his Circumcifion, Luc. i. 31. And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a Son, and fhalt call his name Jesus. Luc. ii. 21. And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcifing of the child, his name was called Jefus, which was fo named of the Angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Q. Why is he called Jesus?

A. Because he is our Saviour, Matth. i. 21. And She fhall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call his Name Jefus. For he fhall fave his People from their

Sins.

Q. Is he our only Saviour?

A. Yes, Act. iv. 12. Neither is there Salvation in any other, for there is none other Name under Heaven given among Men, whereby we must be saved. 1 Tim. ii. 5. For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and Men, the Man Christ Jesus.

Q. Is he able to fave us all?

A. Yes, Heb. vii. 25. Wherefore he is able alfo to fave them to the uttermoft, that some unto God by him, Seeing be ever liveth to make Interceffion for them. John v. 17. But Jefus anfivered them, my Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

Q. Why is he alone able to do it?

A. Because he only is both God and Man, Matth. i. 23. Behold a Virgin fhall be with Child, and fhall bring forth a Son, and they shall call his Name Emmanuel, which being interpreted, is God with us.

Q. What Ufe is to be made of this?

A. 1. Hence we are to truft in him only for Salvation and all things neceffary to it, Acts v. 3 1. Him bath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give Repentance to Ifracl, and Forgiveness of Sins.

2. We should love and honour him, Matth. x. 37. He that loveth Father or Mother more than me, is not worthy of me: and he that loveth Son or Daughter more than me, is not worthy of me. I Cor. xvi. 22. If any Man love not the Lord Jefus Chrift, let him be anathema, maranatha.

Chrift

Q. Why is Jefus called Chrift?

A. Because he was anointed Messiah, Dan. ix. 25, 26. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the Commandment to restore and to build Jerufalem, unto the Meffiah the Prince, shall be seven Weeks; and threefcore and two Weeks the Street shall be built again, and the Wall, even in troublous times; and after threescore and two Weeks fhall Meffiah be cut off, but not for himself. John i. 41. He first findeth his own Brother Simon, and faith unto him We have found the Meffias, which is, being interpreted, the Chrift.

Q. What was he anointed with?

A. The Holy Spirit, A&t. x. 38. God anointed Jefus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost, and with Power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppreffed of the Devil: for God was with him.

Q. Why?

A. To be a Prophet, Prieft, and King; all which, none but he ever was.

Q. Why was he anointed a Prophet?

A. To make known God's Will to us, Ifai. Ixi. r. The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek, he hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim Liberty to the Captives, and the opening of the Prison to them that are bound. Luc. iv. 18. The

Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of fight to the blind, to fet at liberty them that are bruised. A&t. iii. 22. For Mofes truly faid unto the Fathers, a Prophet hall the Lord your God raife up unto you, of your Brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. Deut. xvii. 15. The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy Brethren, like unto me; unto him ye fball hearken.

Q. Why a Priest?

A. To make atonement and interceffion for us, Heb. vii. 24, 25. But this man, because he continueth ever, bath an unchangeable Priesthood. Wherefore he is able alfo to fave them to the uttermoft, that come unto God by him, feeing he ever liveth to make interceffion for them.

Q. Why a King? Pfalm ii. 26. The Kings of the earth fet themselves, and the Rulers take councel together against the Lord and against his anointed. Ver. 6. Tet have I fet my King upon my holy hill of Zion?

A. To rule, govern and reward us, A&t v. 31. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give Repentance to Ifrael, and forgiveness of Sins. Matt. xxviii. 18, 20. And Jefus came, and Spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Teaching them to obferve all things whatsoever I have com manded you: and lo, I am with you alway even unto the end of the World. Amen.

His

His only Son

Q. Whofe Son is he?

A. God's, 1 John v. 5. Who is he that overcometh the World, but he that believeth that Jefus is the Son of God.

Q. Why his only Son?

A. Because the only begotten, John iii. 16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not pe rish, but have everlasting life. John v. 26. For as the Father hath life in himself, fo bath he given to the Son to have life in himself.

QIf begotten of God he is God too, how doth that appear?

A. John i. 1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Rom. ix. 5. Whofe are the Father's, and of whom as concerning the flesh Chrift came, who is over all, God bleffed for ever, Amen. Ifai. ix. 6. For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government shall be upon his Shoulder: and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Councellor, the mighty God, the everlafting Father, the Prince of Peace.

Q. Is he then equal to the Father ?

A. Yes. Phil. ii. 6. Who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God. John X. 30. I and my Father are one.

Q. Muft we then honour and worship the Son as we do the Father?

A. Yes. John v. 23. That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father, which hath fent him. Heb. i. 6. And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he faith, and let all the Angels of God worship him.
