2. What follows from hence?

A. 1. That we should admire God's love to us, 1 Job. iv. 9, 10. In this was manifefted the love of God towards us, because that God fent his only begotten Son into the World, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and fent his fon to be the Propitiation for our fins.

2. Is Chrift ever called the Lord?

A. Yes, Jehovah, Ifai. xl. 3. The voice of him that crieth in the Wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, make ftrait in the defert a Highway for our God Matth. iii. 3. For this is he that was Spoken of by the Prophet Efaias, faying, the voice of one crying in the Wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths ftrait. Jer. xxiii. 6. In bis days fudab fhall be faved, and Ifrael fhall dwell fafely and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord our Righteousness.

2. Why the Lord in that fenfe?

A. Because he gives Being to all things, fob. i. 13. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Is he not Lord alfo as Man?

A. Yes, Rom. xiv. 9. For to this end Chrift both died, and rofe, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. Eph. i. 20, 21. Which he wrought in Chrift, when he raised him from the dead, and fet him at his VOL. I.

own right hand in the heavenly places: Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but alfo in that which is to come. Q. Why our Lord?

A. Not only by Creation, but Redemption, Feb. xx. 28. But Thomas answered and faid, my Lord and my God, 1 Cor. vii. 22, 23. For he that is called in the Lord, being a fervant, is the Lord's freeman likewife alfo be that is called being free, is Chrift's Servant. Ye are bought with a price, be not ye the Servants of men. A. 1. That we worship him, Phil. ii. 9, 10, 11. Wherefore God alfo bath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name, that at the name of fefus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. And that every Tongue fhould confefs, that Jefus Chrift is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Heb. i. 6. And again, when he bringeth the first begotten into the World, he faith, and let all the Angels of God worship

2. How do ye prove he was fo conceived? A. Luke i. 25. And the Angel answered and faid unto her, The Holy Ghoft fhall come upon thee, and the power of the highest shall overshadow thee; therefore alfo that holy thing which shall be born of thee, fhall be called the Son of God. Matth. i. 20. But while he thought on these things, behold the Angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a Dream, Jaying, Fofeph thou Son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy Wife: for that which is conceiv'd in her is of the Holy Ghoft.

2. Why was that neceffary?

A. That he might be without Sin, Heb. vii. 26. For fuch an High Priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, feparate from Sinners,and made bigher than the Heavens.

2. How do ye prove that his Mother was a Virgin?

A. Ifa. vii. 14. Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a fign, behold a Virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and fhall call his Name Immanuel. Luke i. 34. 2. Was he then truly Man?

A. Yes, 1 Tim. ii. 5. For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Chrift Fefus. John i. 14. And the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

2. Was he one Perfon as God, and another as Man?

A. No. One as both. Ats xx. 28. Take heed therefore unto your felves, and to all the flock over which the Holy Ghost bath made you Overfeers,to feed the Church of God, which he hath purchafed with his own blood.

A. If he was not Man, he could not have died at all. If he was not God his Death would have done us no good.

How do ye prove that Chrift was to fuf

A. Luk. xxiv. 25, 26. Then be faid unto them, O Fool, and flow of heart to believe all that the Prophets have spoken. Ought not Chrift to have fuffered these things, and to enter into his Glory? Gen. iii. 15. And I will put Enmity between thee and the Woman, and between thy feed and her feed, it fhall bruife thy head, and thou shalt bruife his

2. What did he suffer?

A. Hunger and Thirft, Math. iv. 2. And when he had fafted forty days and forty nights, he was afterwards an hungred Sorrow and Agonics, Matt. xxvi. 38. Then faith he unto them, my foul is exceeding forrowful even unto death, tarry ye here and watch with me. His Agony, Luke xxii. 44. And being in an Agony, he prayed more earnestly and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Mark xv. 17, 18, 19. And they cloathed him with purple, and platted a Crown of Thorns, and put it about his head, and began to falute bim, Hail king of the Jews. And they fmote bim on the head with a reed, and did fpit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.

2. Why did he fuffer?

A. For our Sins, Ifa. liii. 5. But he was wounded for our Tranfgreffions, he was bruised for our Iniquities, the chaftifement of our Peace was upon him, and with his ftripes we are healed, 1 Pet. iii. 18. For Chrift alfo hath once fuffered for fins, the just for the unjuft (that he might bring us to God) being put to death in the flesh, but quickned by the Spirit. 1 Johnii. 2. And he is the propitiation for our Sins: and not for ours only, but also for the fins of the whole world. 2 Cor. v. 21. For he hath made him to be fin for us, who knew no fin; that we might be made the Righteoufnefs of God in him.

What Benefit was that to us?

A. Our Sins are thereby pardoned, Eph. i. 7. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of fins, according to the riches of his
