Q. How do you prove he defcended into Hell?

A. Pfal. xvi. 10. For thou wilt not leave my Soul in Hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine holy one to fee corruption. A&s ii. 25. For David speaketh concerning him, I forefaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand that I should not be moved. A&s xiii. 35. Wherefore he faith alfo in another Pfalm, thou shalt not fuffer thine holy one to fee corruption.

Q. Did he fuffer any pain there?

A. No, Heb. ix. 28. So Christ was once offered to bear the fins of many, and unto them that look for him Shall be appear the Second time, without fin unto Sal

Q. Did he go to deliver the Souls there?

A. No. The bad are never delivered, the good were never there, Luc. xvi. 22, 23. And it came to pass that the beggar died, and was carried by the Angels into Abraham's bofom: The rich man also died, and was buried. And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bofom. Enoch. Elijah. 1 Pet. iii. 18, 19. For Chrift alfo hath once fuffered for fins, the juft for the unjust, (that he might bring us to God) being put to death in the flesh, but quickned by the Spirit, by which also he went and preached unto the Spirits in Prison.

The third Day he rose again from the Dead.

Q. In what fenfe did he rise again?

A. He became alive again of himself, Matth. xxviii. 5, 6, 7. And the Angel answered and faid unto the woman, Fear not ye: For I know that ye feek Jefus, which was crucified. He is not here, for he is rijen, as he said: come, fee the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell his Difciples that he is rifen from the dead; and behold he goeth before you into Galilee, there shall ye fee him, lo I have told you. Luk, xxiv. 5. And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they faid unto them, why feek ye the living among the dead. John x. 17, 18. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again: No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of my self: I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again; this commandment have I received from my. Father.

Q. How do ye prove that it was the fame Perfon?

A. Joh. xx. 27, 28. Then faith he to Thomas, reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my fide, and be not faithless, but believing; And Thomas answered, and faid unto him, My Lord and

Q. How that he rofe again the third Day? A. Luk. xxiv. 7. The Son of man must be deli-vered into the hands of finful men, and be crucified, and the third day rife again, I Cor. xv. 4. And that he was buried, and that he rofe again the third day, according to the Scriptures.

Q. How could that be, feeing he lay but one whole day?

A. Because he lay the parts of two days, Friday and Sunday.

Q. What day of the Week did he rise again?

A. The first Day, Matth. xxviii. 1. In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn towards the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalen, and the other Mary, to fee the Sepulchre. Mark xvi. 2. And early in the morning, the first day of the week, they came unto the Sepulchre at the rising of the Sun. Thence called the Lord's Day; Revel. i. 10. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet.

Q. Why did he rife again?

A. For our Juftification, Rom. iv. 25. Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our juftification. A&s iii. 26. Unto you first, God, having raised up his Son Jefus, fent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquity.

He afcended into Heaven,

2. What is that?

A. His Soul and Body were taken up into Hea ven, Job. vi. 62. What and if ye shall fee the Son of Man afcend up where he was before. Joh. iii. 13. And no Man hath afcended up to Heaven but he that came down from Heaven, even the Son of Man which is in Heaven.

Q. How doth that appear?

A. Luk. xxiv. 50, 51. And he led them out as far as to Bethany: and he lift up his hand, and bleffed them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them,

he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. A&. i. 9. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their fight.

2. How do ye prove that he went up as high as Heaven?

A. Aas i. 10, 11. And while they looked stedfaftly toward Heaven, as he went up, behold, two men ftood by them in white apparel, which also faid, ye men of Galilee, why ftand ye gazing up into Heaven? This Same Jefus which is taken up from you into Heaven, fball fo come, in like manner as ye have seen him go

into Heaven.

2. How long was it after his Refurrection before he afcended?

A. Forty days, Acts i. 3. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his paffion, by many infallible proofs, being feen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

2. Why did he afcend into Heaven?

A. That he might give us his Holy Spirit from thence, and apply the merits of his Death to us, Pfal. Ixviii. 18. Thou haft afcended on high, thou haft led captivity captive, thou haft received gifts for men; yea for the rebellious alfo, that the Lord God might dwell among men. Eph. iv. 7, 8. But unto every one of us is given Grace according to the meafure of the gift of Christ; wherefore he faith, when he afcended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. John xvi. 7. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is expedient for you that I go away, for if I go not away, the comforter will not come unto you, but if I depart I will send him unto you. John xiv. 1, 2. Let not your heart be troubled: je believe in God, believe alfo in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not fo, I would

have told you: I go to prepare a place for you. Heb. ix. 24. For Chrift is not entred into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven it felf, now to appear in the prefence of God for us.

And fitteth on the Right Hand of God the Father Almighty.

Q. How do ye prove that?

A. Mark xvi. 19. So then after the Lord had Spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and. fat on the right hand of God. Pfal. cx. 1. The Lord Said unto my Lord, fit thou at my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool. Acts ii. 34. For David is not afcended into the heavens: but he faith himfelf, The Lord faid unto my Lord, fit thou on my right hand. Rom. viii. 34. Who is he that condemneth, it is Chrift that died, yea rather that is rifen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who maketh alfo interceffion for us.

2. What is meant by his fitting or being at the Right Hand of God?

A. His being advanced to the highest Honour and Power over all things, Matth. xxvi. 64. Jefus faith unto him, thou haft faid: nevertheless I say unto you. hereafter shall ye see the Son of man fitting at the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of hea ven. I Pet. iii. 22. Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God, Angels and Authorities and Powers being made fubject unto him. Eph. i. 20, 21, 22. Which he wrought in Chrift when he raifed him from the dead, and fet him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all Principality, and Power, and Might, and Dominion, and
