DAILY BIBLE THOUGHTS FOR THE MONTH.

77

April 21.-Psalm cxxv. 4. God's own principle. Whosoever hath, to him shall be given (Matt. xiii. 12). The upright heart is soil He "To him that ordereth his conversation aright," etc. (Psalm 1.

blesses.

23).

April 22.-Psalm cxxvi. 6. birth in the soul (Luke viii. 11; all waters?" (Isa. xxxii. 20). discouragements.

God's Word is the Seed of the new
1 Pet. i. 23). Are we "sowing beside
God's " DOUBTLESS " rises above all.

April 23.-Psalm cxxvii. 1, 2. Living "in careful suspense " (Luke xii. 29; marg.) is vain and injurious. God's beloved may cast their care on Him and "sleep in peace" while He worketh their deliverance. (See Dan. ii. 12-19.)

April 24.—Psalm cxxviii. 1. This blessing is as sure in this dispensation, though it has not always the same manifestation. It can bring content and joy in any circumstances (See Acts xvi. 25; Phil. iv. 4, 11). April 25.-Psalm cxxix. 1, 2. Israel in Egypt, like the Church in times of trial, was typified by the bush, burning, but not consumed (Ex. iii. 2, 7, 8).

April 26.—Psalm cxxx. 5. Some “word” must ever be our ground of hope. The promises are so vast and so minute, they compass every possibility in our lives; and every one we take to God through Christ, His answer is "Yea,” “So be it" (See Psalm cxix. 49; 2 Cor. i. 20). April 27.-Psalm cxxxi. 1, 2. Learning of Jesus brings this spirit (Matt. xi. 29). He reveals Himself to babes, and when we are little in our own sight," He can use us (see Judges vi. 15, 16).

April 28.-Psalm cxxxii. 5, 14. Jehovah seeks a dwelling still. It is the surrendered heart. We may there " prepare Him an habitation," and have Him for an abiding Guest (Rev. iii. 20).

April 29.-Psalm cxxxiii. 1. All who are invited to Christ are invited to each other. Are we "keeping" this unity? Acting it out with all Christians? (See I Cor. xii. 26). Thus preaching a constant sermon (John xvii. 21).

April 30.-Psalm cxxxiv. 1.

Servants! An honourable name!

The humblest life may be lived as a service for Christ (Eph. vi. 5-8), and earn His sweet "well done" at last (Matt. xxv. 21).

OUR increase during the past month has been as follows:-Members, 813; Associates, 822.

PSALM CXIX. This long Psalm falls to the reading for April 15th. A few readers have asked that it might be divided; but this is impossible, as it would throw out our one-chapter-a-day reading through the Bible. We would, however, offer a few remarks about the reading of it.

Those who have time to do so, can, of course, read it during the day, either at once, or divided, to suit their convenience. It does not take so long to read as some would suppose; and many would still have time to think over parts of it.

For those who have little time, we would suggest that they read the first two divisions on April 13, besides Psalm cxvii., which has only two verses. Then on the 15th, the next five divisions only. This will leave fifteen divisions. These can be read, one each day, along with the short daily Psalm for the next fifteen days. Thus it would not fall heavily on those whose time is limited.

With regard to the Psalm itself, we recommend its careful study this month. It throws much light on the believer's attitude towards the Word of God, the blessedness of following it, and the danger of forgetting it. It should be noticed that every one of the 176 verses, except verses 84, 90, 121, and 122 (and some say, except 122 only), says something about the Word of God under one name or another, such as "laws," "testimonies," "precepts," "statutes," "judgments,' "commandments,' "" "way "" "ordinances." Especially let us notice the frequent occurrence of the expression, “according to Thy Word," indicating the believer's reliance upon God's promises, and the way in which we should plead them in prayer.
