As thou art wont to visit those
That thy blest name adore.

11 Directed by thy heav'nly word
Let all my footsteps be;
Nor wickedness, of any kind,
Dominion have o'er me.

12 Forever and forever, Lord,
Unchang'd thou dost remain ;
Thy word, establish'd in the heav'ns,
Does all their orbs sustain.

13 Through circling ages, Lord, thy truth
Immoveable shall stand;

As doth the earth, which thou uphold'st
By thy Almighty hand.

14 All things the course by thee ordain'd,
E'en to this day, fulfil;

They are thy faithful subjects all,
And servants of thy will.

15 Unless thy sacred law had been
My comfort and delight,

I must have fainted and expir'd
In dark affliction's night.

16 Thy precepts, therefore from my thoughts Shall never, Lord, depart;

For thou by them hast to new life
Restor❜d my dying heart.

17 I've seen an end of what we call
Perfection here below;

But thy commandments, like thyself,
No change or period know.

PSALM XXXIX.

From the 36th of David.

1 O LORD, thy mercy, my sure hope, The highest orb of heav'n transcends,

Thy sacred truth's unmeasur'd scope.
Beyond the spreading sky extends.
2 Thy justice like the hills remains ;
Unfathom'd depths thy judgments are
Thy providence the world sustains,
The whole creation is thy care.
3. Since of thy goodness all partake,
With what assurance shall the just
Thy shelt'ring wings their refuge make,
And saints to thy protection trust!
Such guests shall to thy courts be led,
To banquet on thy love's repast,
And drink, as from a fountain's head,
Of joys that shall forever last,

5. With thee the springs of life remain,
Thy presence is eternal day:
O let thy saints thy favour gain:
To upright hearts thy truth display,

PSALM XL.

From the 62d of David.

f GOD does his saving health dispense, And flowing blessings daily send. He is my fortress and defence;

On him my soul shall still depend.

2.In him, ye people, always trust;

Before his throne pour out your hearts
For God, the merciful and just,
His timely aid to us imparts.

3 The vulgar fickle are, and frail;
The great dissemble and betray ;-
And laid in truth's impartial scale,
The lightest things will both outweigh..
Then trust not in oppressive ways:
By spoil and rapine grow not vain j

Nor let your hearts, if wealth increase, Be set too much upon your gain. 5 For God has oft his will express'd, And I this truth have fully known; To be of boundless pow'r posses'd, Belongs, of right, to God alone. 6 Though mercy is his darling grace, In which he chiefly takes delight; Yet will be all the human race

According to their works requite.

HYMNS.

HYMN I.

Religious inquiry.

1 ALL knowing God, 'tis thine to know
The springs whence wrong opinions flow;
To judge from principles within,
When frailty errs, and when we sin.

2 Who, among men, high Lord of all,
Thy servants to his bar may call?
Decide of heresy, and shake
A brother o'er the flaming lake?
3 Who with another's eye can read?
Or worship by another's creed?
Revering thy command alone,
We humbly seek and use our own.
4 If wrong, forgive; accept, if right;
While faithful we obey our light;
And, cens'ring none, are zealous still,
To follow as to learn thy will.

5 When shall our happy eyes behold
Thy people fashion'd in thy mould ?
And charity our lineage prove,
Deriv'd from thee, O God of love?

HYMN II.

The heavens declare the glory of God.

1 THE spacious firmament on high,
With all the blue ethereal sky,

And spangled heav'ns (a shining frame!)
Their Great Original proclaim.

2 Th' unwearied sun from day to day,
Does his Creator's pow'r display,
And publishes, to ev'ry land,
The work of an Almighty Hand.

3 Soon as the ev'ning shades prevail,
The moon takes up the wondrous tale,
And nightly to the list'ning earth
Repeats the story of her birth :

Whilst all the stars that round her burn,
And all the planets in their turn,
Confirm the tidings as they roll,
And spread the truth from pole to pole.
5 What though, in solemn silence, all
Move round the dark terrestrial ball?
What though not real voice nor sound
Amid their radiant orbs be found?

6 In Reason's ear they all rejoice,
And utter forth a glorious voice:
Forever singing, as they shine,
"The Hand that made us is divine."

HYMN III.

To the only true God.

SETERNAL God, Almighty Cause
Of earth, and seas, and worlds unknown!
All things are subject to thy laws,
All things depend on thee alone.

2 Thy glorious being firmly stands,
Of all within itself possest;
Controll'd by none are thy commands,
Thou from thyself alone art blest.

To thee alone ourselves we owe,
To thee alone our homage pay;

All other Gods we disavow,

Deny their claims, renounce their sway.
