I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

Selected from Isaiah, ch. 37, 38.

O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even 'thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth : thou hast made heaven and earth. Incline thine ear, O Lord, and hear; open thine eyes, Lord, and see. Remember, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. Now therefore, O Lord our God, save us from the hand that oppresses us, that all the earth may know that thou art the Lord, even thou only.

The Thanksgiving of Hezekiah, on his recovery from sickness, Isaiah, 38.

I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years. I said, I shall not see the Lord, even the Lord, in the land of the living: I

shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward : O Lord, I am oppressed: undertake for me. What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it ; I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. For the grave cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day the father to the children shall make known thy truth. The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the

stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

Selected from Baruch, ch. 2, 3.

O Lord our God, thou hast dealt with us after all thy goodness, and according to all that great mercy of thine. To the Lord our God appertaineth righteousness: but unto us and to our fathers open shame, as appeareth this day. Yet we have not hearkened unto his voice to walk in the commandments of the Lord, that he hath set before us. Yet have we not prayed before the Lord, that we might turn every one from the imaginations of his wicked heart. O Lord our God, we have sinned, we have done ungodly, we have dealt unrighteously in all thine ordinances. Hear our prayers, O Lord, and our petitions, and deliver us for thine own sake, and give us favour in the sight of them which have led us away that all the earth may know that thou art the Lord our God, because Israel and his posterity is called by thy name. O Lord, look down from thine holy house, and consider us: bow down thine ear, O Lord, to hear us. Open

:

thine eyes, and behold; for the dead that are in their graves, whose souls are taken from their bodies, will give unto the Lord neither praise nor righteousness: but the soul that is greatly vexed, which goeth stooping and feeble, and the eyes that fail, and the hungry soul, will give thee praise and righteousness, O Lord. Therefore we do not make our humble supplication before thee, O Lord our God, for the righteousness of our fathers, and of our kings. Remember not the iniquities of our forefathers; but think upon thy power and thy name now at this time. For thou art the Lord our God, and thee, O Lord, will we praise.

From the same, ch. 3.

O Lord Almighty, God of Israel, the soul in anguish, the troubled spirit, crieth unto thee. Hear, O Lord, and have mercy; for thou art merciful: and have pity upon us, because we have sinned before thee. For thou endurest for ever, and we perish utterly.

:

ly neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law, nor hearkened unto thy commandments, and thy testimonies, wherewith thou didst testify against them. For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works. Behold we are servants this day; and for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers, to eat the fruit thereof, and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it. And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings which thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

Daniel's Confession of Sin, and Prayer for the restoration of Jerusalem, Daniel, 9.

O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments; we have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by
