In the end of the Litany (which shall always this Day be used) after the Collect [We humbly beseech thee, O Father, &c] shall this be said which followeth:

Almighty God, and heavenly Father, who of thy gracious Providence, and tender mercy towards us, didst prevent the malice and imaginations of our enemies, by discovering and confounding their horrible and wicked enterprize, plotted and intended this day to have been executed against the King, and the whole State of England, for the subversion of the Government and Religion established among us; and didst likewise upon this Day wonderfully conduct thy servant King WILLIAM, and bring him safely into England, to preserve us from the attempts of our enemies to bereave us of our Religion and Laws; We most humbly praise and magnify thy most glorious Name for thy unspeakable goodness towards us, expressed in both these acts of thy mercy. We confess, it has been of thy mercy alone, that we are not consumed: for our sins have cried to heaven against us, and our iniquities justly called for vengeance upon us. But thou hast {q) not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us after our iniquities; nor given us over, as we deserved, to be a prey to our enemies; but hast in mercy delivered us from their malice, and preserved us from death and destruction. Let the consideration of this thy repeated goodness, O Lord, work in us true repentance that iniquity may not be our ruin: And increase in us more and more a lively faith and love, fruitful in all holy obedience; that thou may est still continue thy favour, with the light of thy Gospel to us and our posterity for evermore: and that for thy dear Son's sake Jesus Christ, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

Instead of the Prayer [In time of War and Tumults] shall be used this Prayer following:

(} Lord, who didst this Day discover (ij) Psalm ciii. 10.

the snares of death that were laid for us, and didst wonderfully deliver us from the same; Be thou still our mighty Protector, and scatter our enemies that delight in blood: Infatuate and defeat their counsels, abate their pride, assuage their malice, and confound their devices. Strengthen the hands of our gracious Sovereign King GEORGE, and all that are put in authority under him. with judgement and justice, to cut off all such workers of iniquity as turn Religion into Rebellion, and Faith into Faction; that they may never prevail against us, or triumph in the ruin of thy Church among us: but that our gracious Sovereign, and his Realm, being preserved in thy true Religion, and by thy merciful goodness protected in the same, we may all duly serve thee, and give thee thanks in thy holy congregation, through Jesas Christ our Lord. Amen.

In the Communion Service, instead of tit Collect for the Day, shall this vehki followeth be used;

Internal God, and our most mighty Protector, we thy unworthy servants do humbly present ourselves before thy Majesty, acknowledging thy power, wisdom, and goodness, in preserving the King, and the Three Estates of the Realm of England assembled in Parliament, from the destruction this Day intended against them. Make us, we beseech thee, truly thankful for this, and for all other thy great mercies towards us; particularly for making this Day again memorable, by a fresh instance of thy loving-kindness towards us. We bless thee for giving his lite Majesty King WILLIAM a safe arrival here, and for making all opposition fall before him, till he becarce our King aftd Governor. We beseech thee to protect and defend our Sovereign King GEORGE «** »" the Royal Family, from all treawns and conspiracies; Preserve him 1D thy faith, fear, and love; Prosper his Reign with long happiness here on earth; and crown him with «ver* listing glory hereafter, through Jesus Christ our only Saviour and Redeemer. After the Prayer for the Church MiliUsnl this following Prayer is to be used:

O God, whose Name is excellent in all the earth, and thy glory above the heavens; who on this day didst miraculously preserve our Church and State from the secret contrivance and hellish malice of Popish conspirators; and on this Day also didst begin to give us a mighty deliverance from the open tyranny and oppression of the same cruel and blood-thirsty enemies; We bless and adore thy glorious Majesty, as for the former, so for this thy late marvellous loving-kindness to our Church and Nation, in the preservation of our Religion and liberties. And we humbly pray, that the devout sense of this thy repeated mercy may renew and increase in us a spirit of love and thankfulness to thee its only Author; a spirit of peaceable submission and obedience to our gracious Sovereign Lord King GEORGE; and a spirit of fervent zeal for our holy Religion, which thou hast so wonderfully rescued and established a blessing to us and our posterity. And this we beg for Jesus Christ his sake. Amen.

KING CHARLES THE MARTYR.

A Form of Prayer with Fasting, to be used Yearly upon the Thirtieth Day of January, being the Day of the Martyrdom of the blessed King CHARLES I. to implore the Mercy of God, that neither the Guilt of that sacred and innocent Blood, nor those other Sins, by which God was provoked to deliver both us and our King into the Hands of cruel and unreasonable Men, may at any time hereafter be visited upon us, or our Posterity.

If this Day shall happen to be Sunday, this Form of Prayer shall be used, and the Fsi kept the next Day following. And upon the Lord's Day next before the Day to bekni, at Morning Prayer, immediately after the Nicene Creed, notice shall be given for ifcr due Observation of the said Day.

The Service of the Day shall be the same with the usual Office for Holy-Days n<£ things; except where it is in this Office otherwise appointed.

THE ORDER FOR MORNING PRAYER.

He that ministereth shall begin with one or more of these Sentences.

1 o the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him: neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us. Dan. ix. 9, 10.

Correct us, O Lord, but with judgement; not in thine anger, lest thou bring us to nothing. Jo: x. 2*.

Enter not into judgement with thy servants, O Lord: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. Psalm cxliii. 2.

Instead of Venite exultemus, the Hymn following shall be said or sung; one Verse by the Priest, and another by the Cleric and People.

Ivighteous art thou, O Lord: and just are thy judgements! Psalm cxix. 137.

Thou art Jttst, O Lord, in all that is brought upon us: for thou hast done right; but we have done "wickedly. Neh. ix. S3.

Nevertheless, our feet were almost gone: our treadings had well-nigh slipped. Psalm lxxiii. 2.

For "why? we were grieved at the

The people stood up, and the mien took counsel together: against the Lord and against his Anointed. Psalm ii. 2.

The adversary and the enemy entered into the gates of Jerusalem: saying, "When shall he die, and his "name perish? ver. 12. Psalm xli. 5."

Let the sentence of guiltiness proceed against him: and now that he lieth, let him rise up no more. ver. 8.

False witnesses also did rise up against him: they laid to his charge things that he knew not. Psalm xxxv. 11.

For the sins of the people, and the iniquities of the priests: they shed the Hood of the Just in the midst of Jerusalem. Lam. iv. 13.

0 my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man. Gen. xlix. 6.

Even the man of thy right hand : the Son of man, whom thou hadst made so strong for thine own self. Psalm lxxx. 17.

In the sight of the unwise he seemed to die: and his departure was taken for misery. Wisd. iii. 2.

They, fools, counted his life madness, and his end to be without honour: but he is in peace. Wisd. v. 4. & iii. 3.

For though he was punished in the sight of men: yet was his hope full of immortality. Wisd. iii. 4.

How is he numbered with the children of God: and his lot.is among the saints J Wisd. v. 5.

But, O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth, thou God, to whom vengeance belongeth: be favourable and gracious unto Sion. Psalm xciv. 1. and U. 18.

Be merciful, O Lord, unto thy people, whom thou hast redeemed: and lay not innocent blood to our charge. Deut. xxi. 8.

O shut not up our souls with sinners: nor our lives with the bloodthirsty. Psalm xxvi. 9.

Deliver us from blood-guiltiness, 0 God, thou that art the God of our salvation : and our tongue shall sing of thy righteousness. Psalm li. 14.

For thou art the God, that hast no pleasure in wickedness: neither shall any evil dwell with thee. Psalm v. 4. Thou wilt destroy them that speak

O how suddenly do they consume: perish, and come to a fearful end! Psalm 1 xx iii. 18.

Great and marvellous are thy works, O Lord God Almighty: just and true are thy ways, O King of saints! Rev. xv. 3.

Righteous art thou, 0 Lord: and just are thy judgements! Psalm cxix. 137.

O Most mighty God, terrible in thy judgements, and wonderful in thy doings towards the children of men; who in thy heavy displeasure didst suffer the life of our gracious Sovereign King CHARLES the First, to be (as on this Day) taken away by the hands of cruel and bloody men: We thy sinful creatures here assembled before thee, do, in the behalf of all the people of this land, humbly confess, that they were the crying sins of this Nation, which brought down this heavy judgement upon us. But, O gracious God, when thou makest (»•) inquisition for blood, lay not the guilt of this innocent blood (the shedding whereof nothing but the blood of thy Son can expiate,) lay it not to the charge of the people of this land; nor let it ever be required of us, or our posterity. Be merciful, O Lord, be merciful unto thy people, whom thou hast redeemed; and be not angry with us for ever: But pardon

us for thy mercies' sake, through the merits of thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

.blessed Lord, in whose sight the death of thy saints is precious; We magnify thy Name for thine abundant grace bestowed upon our martyred Sovereign; by which he was enabled so cheerfully to follow the steps of his blessed Master and Saviour, in a constant meek suffering of all barbarous indignities, and at last resisting unto blood; and even then, according to the same pattern, praying for his murderers. Let his memory, O Lord, be ever blessed among us; that we may follow the example of his courage and constancy, his meekness and patience, and great charity. And grant, that this our land may be freed from the vengeance of his righteous blood, and thy mercy glorified in the forgiveness of our sins: and all for Jesus Christ his sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

In the end of the Litany, (which shall always on this Day be used J, immediately after the Collect [We humbly beseech thee, O Father, &c] the three Collects next following are to be read.

y) Lord, we beseech thee, mercifully hear our prayers, and spare all those who confess their sins unto thee; that they, whose consciences by sin are accused, by thy merciful pardon may be absolved, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Most mighty God and merciful Father, who hast compassion upon all men, and hatest nothing that thou hast made; who- wouldest not the death of a sinner, but that he should rather turn from his sin, and be saved; Mercifully forgive us our trespasses; receive and comfort us, who are grieved and wearied with the burden of our sins. Thy property is always to have mercy: to thee only it appertained to forgive sins. Spare us, therefore, good Lord, spare thy people whom thou hasi redeemed ; enter not into

judgement with thy servants, who are vile earth and miserable sinners; but so turn thine anger from us, who meekly acknowledge our vileness, and truly repent us of our faults; and so make haste to help us in this world, that we may ever live with thee in the world to come, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

0 Lord, be favourable to thy people, Who turn to thee in weeping, lasting, and praying. For thou art a merciful God, full of compassion, long suffering, and of great pity.
