He burns within with restlefs fires;

Toft to and fro, his paffions fly
From vanity to vanity.

2 In vain on earth we hope to find,
Some folid good to fill the mind:
We try new pleasures, but we feel
The inward thirst, and torment ftlll.

3 So when a raging fever burns,
We shift from fide to fide by turns ;
And 'tis a poor relief we gain,

To change the place, but keep the pain.

4 Great God! fubdue this vicious thirst, This love to vanity and duft;

Cure the vile fever of the mind;

And feed our fouls with joys refin❜d.

The crowns of British princes shine,
With rays above the rest,

Where laws and liberties combine,

To make the nation bleft.

4 Kingdoms on firm foundations ftand,
While virtue finds reward
And finners perish from the land,
By juftice and the fword.

Let Cafar's due be ever paid,

To Cæfar and his throne;

But confciences, and fouls, were made

To be the Lord's alone. í

CI. The Deceitfulness of Sin.

To practife on the mind;

With flatt'ring looks the tempts our hearts,
But leaves a fting behind.

2 With names of virtue the deceives,
The aged and the young :.

And while the headlefs wretch believes,
She makes his fetters ftrong.

3 She pleads for all the joys he brings,
And gives a fair pretence ;.

But cheats the foul of heav'nly things,
And, chains it down to fenfe.

4 So on a tree divinely fair,
Grew the forbidden food;
Our mother took the poifon there,
And tainted all her blood..

5 Flee, finners, to the bleeding Lamby
'Tis he alone can fave ;;
Truft in the dear Redeemer's name,
And live beyond the grave.

BEHOLD the glories of the Lamb,
