2 So in thy Son thy power divine,

Thy wisdom, justice, truth, and love, With mild and pleasing lustre shine, Retlected from thy throne above

3 Thou, at whose almighty word

Fair light at first from darkness shone! Teach us to know our glorious Lord, And trace the Father in the Son.

378.
Christ the Sun of Righteousness.

DODDRIDE. 1 To thee, O God! we homage pay,

Source of the light that rules the day;
Who whilo he gilds all nature's frame,

Reflects thy rays and speaks thy name. 2 In louder strains we sing that grace

Which gives the Sun of Righteousness;
Whose nobler light salvation brings,
And scatters healing from his wings.
Still on our hearts may Jesus shine,
With beams of light and love divine !
Quickened by him our souls shall live,

And cheered by him shall grow and thrive. 4 Oh may his glories stand confessed,

From north to south, from east to west!
Successful

may bis gospel run,
Wide as the circuit of the sun!

2 Thus doth the eternal Spirit own

And seal the mission of his Son:
The Father vindicates his cause,
While he hangs bleeding on the cross.

3 He dies; the heavens in mourning stood: 14 Decay, then, tenements of dust; Ile rises, and appears with God:

Pillars of earthly pride, decay: Behold the Lord ascending high,

A nobler mansion waits the just, No more to bleed, no more to die! And Jesus has prepared the way.

2 From heaven he came, of heaven he spoke, 3 Cold mountains and the midnight air To heaven he led his followers' way;

Witnessed the fervor of thy prayer; Dark clouds of gloomy night he broke, The desert thy temptations knew, Unveiling an immortal day.

Thy conflict and thy victory too.

3 “ Come, wanderers, to my Father's home; 4 Be thou my pattern: may I bear

Come, all ye weary ones, and rest." More of thy gracious image here !
Yes, sacred Teacher, we will come, Then God, the Judge, shall own my name
Obey thee, love thee, and be blest Amongst the followers of the Lamb.

BUSELL

Greater love hath no man than this." 383.

384. “He hath not where to lay his head."

BACHE,
1 “SEE how he loved !” exclaimed the 1 O'ER the dark wave of Galilee

As tender tears from Jesus fell: [Jews, The gloom of twilight gathers fast,
My grateful heart the thought pursues, And on the waters drearily
And on the theme delights to dwell. Descends the fitful evening blast.

385. “With his stripes we are healed." ANON. | 6 Thy parting blessing, Lord, we pray:

Make but one fold below, above; 1 A voice upon the midnight air,

And when we go the last, lone way, Where Kedron's moonlit waters stray,

Oh give the welcome of thy love! Weeps forth in agony and prayer, “O Father! take this cup away.”

386. “Thy will be done."

ANON. 2 Ah! thou who sorrow'st unto death, 1 LORD, in thy garden agony, We conquer in thy mortal fray;

No light seemed on thy soul to break, And earth for all her children saith, No form of seraph lingered nigh, • God! take not this cup away." Nor yet the voice of comfort spake,
