71.
Pleading the Promise of the Spirit.

CAMPBELL'S COL. 1 O thou that hearest prayer!

Attend our humble cry,
And let thy servants share

Thy blessing from on high.
We plead the promise of thy word:
Grant us thy Holy Spirit, Lord.
2 If earthly parents hear

Their children when they cry;
If they, with love sincere,

Their varied wants supply, –
Much more wilt thou thy love display,
And answer when thy children pray.

1 YE boundless realms of joy,

Exalt your Maker's fame;
His praise your song employ

Above the starry frame:
Your voices raise, ye cherubim
And seraphim, to sing his praise.

2 Thou moon, that rul'st the night,

And sun, that guid'st the day,
Ye glittering stars of light,

To him your homage pay:
His praise declare, ye heavens above,
And clouds that move in liquid air.

3 Our heavenly Father thou ;

We, cbildren of thy grace :
Ob let thy Spirit now

Descend and fill the place!
So shall we feel the heavenly flame,
And all unite to praise thy name.
1 Oh may that sacred fire,

Descending from above,
Vur languid hearts inspire
With fervent real and love;

3 Let them adore the Lord,

And praise his holy name,
By whose almighty word

They all from nothing came;
And all shall last, from changes free
His firm decree stands ever fast.

75.

A Sabbath Morning. ANONYMOUB. 3 Safely conduct us, by thy grace, i How sweet, how calm, this sabbath morn! Through life's perplexing road; How pure the air that breathes,

And place us, when that journey's o'er, And soft the sounds upon it borne,

At thy right hand, O God!
And light its vapor wreaths !
It seems as if the Christian's prayer,

77.

The Ways of Wisdom. SCOTCH PARAPHRASES For peace and joy and love, Were answered by the very air

Each anxious care that mars thy peace 2 In her right hand she holds to view
In faith and love be hushed.

A length of happy years ;

And in her left the prize of fame 76. Prayer for Divine Direction.

And honor bright appears. I ETERNAL Source of life and light, 3 She guides the young with innocenco Supremely good and wise,

In pleasure's path to tread; To thee we bring our grateful vows, A crown of glory she bestows To thee lift up our eyes.

Upon the hoary head.
2 Our dark and erring minds illume 4 According as her labors rise,
With truth's celestial rays;

So her rewards increase;
Inspire our hearts with sacred love, Her ways are ways of pleasantness
And tune our lips to praise

And all her paths are peare.
