1 GREAT God, in vain man's narrow view Attempts to look thy nature through: Our laboring powers with reverence own Thy glories never can be known.

2 Not the high seraph's mighty thought, Who countless years his God has sought, Such wondrous height or depth can find, Or fully trace thy boundless mind.

3 And yet thy kindness deigns to show Enough for mortal minds to know; While wisdom, goodness, power divine, Through all thy works and conduct shine.

4 Oh may our souls with rapture trace Thy works of nature and of grace, Explore thy sacred truth, and still Press on to know and do thy will! 150.

Song of Adoration.

ROSCOE.

1 LET one loud song of praise arise
To God, whose goodness ceaseless flows,
Who dwells enthroned above the skies,
And life and breath on all bestows.

2 Let all of good this bosom fires,
To him, sole good, give praises due;
Let all the truth himself inspires
Unite to sing him only true.

3 In aident adoration joined,
Obedient to thy holy will,

Let all our faculties, combined,
Thy just commands, O God! fulfil.

4 Oh may the solemn-breathing sound
Like incense rise before thy throne,
Where thou, whose glory knows no bound,
Great Cause of all things, dwell'st alone.

154. "I will that men pray everywhere." METHODIST COL.

1 THEY who seek the throne of grace,
Find that throne in every place:
If we live a life of prayer,
God is present everywhere.

2 In our sickness, in our health;
In our want, or in our wealth, -
If we look to God in prayer,
God is present everywhere.

8 When our earthly comforts fail,
When the woes of life prevail,
"Tis the time for earnest prayer:
God is present everywhere.
Then, my soul, in every strait,
To thy Father, come and wait;
He will answer every prayer:
God is present everywhere.

1 SOVEREIGN Ruler of the skies,

Ever gracious, ever wise,
All my times are in thy hand,
All events at thy command.

158. All from God. Morning or Evening.
1 FATHER, thy paternal care
Has my guardian been, my guide;
Every hallowed wish and prayer
Has thy hand of love supplied:
Thine is every thought of bliss,
Left by hours and days gone by,
Every hope thy offspring is,
Beaming from futurity

2 Every sun of splendid ray;
Every moon that shines serene;
Every morn that welcomes day;
Every evening's twilight scene;
Every hour which wisdom brings ;
Every incense at thy shrine, -
These, and all life's holiest things,
And its fairest, all are thine.

3 And, for all, my hymns shall rise
Daily to thy gracious throne:
Thither let my asking eyes
Turn, unwearied, righteous One.
Through life's strange vicissitude,
There reposing all my care;

Trusting still, through ill and good,

Fixed and cheered and counselled thera

God's Power over his Works. H. K. WHITE. | 2 The whole in every part proclaims

1 THE Lord our God is full of might,
The winds obey his will;

He speaks, and in his heavenly height
The rolling sun stands still.

2 Rebel, ye waves, and o'er the land,
With threatening aspect, roar:
The Lord uplifts his awful hand,

And chains you to the shore.

Thy infinite good-will:

It shines in stars, and flows in streams,
And bursts from every hill.

3 We view it o'er the spreading main,
And heavens which spread more wide
It drops in gentle showers of rain.
And rolls in every tide.

3 Howl, winds of night, your force combine: 4 Long hath it been diffused abroad,

Without his high behest,.

Ye shall not in the mountain pine
Disturb the sparrow's nest.

Through ages past and gone;
Nor ever can exhausted be,

But still keeps flowing on.

5 Through the whole earth it pours supplies,
Spreads joy through every part:
Oh may such love attract my eyes,
And captivate my heart;

6 My highest admiration raise,
My best affections move;
Employ my tongue in songs of praise
And fill my heart with love!
