number of my days, that I may be certified how long I have to live!

Behold, thou hast made my days as it were a span long ;-and mine age is even as nothing in respect of thee!-verily, every man living is altogether vanity!

For man walketh in a vain shadow, and disquieteth himself in vain; he heapeth up riches, and cannot tell who shall gather them.

And now, Lord! what is my hope!truly my hope is even in thee!

Deliver me from all mine offences, and make me not a rebuke unto the foolish. I will keep silence, and open not my mouth, for it is thy doing!

When thou with rebukes dost chasten man for sin, thou makest his beauty to consume away, like as it were a moth fretting a garment; every man therefore is but vanity!

Hear my prayer, O Lord! and with thine ears consider my calling ;-hold not thy peace at my tears!

ver my strength; before I go hence, and be no more seen!

Psalm xl.

Withdraw not thou thy mercy from me, O Lord!-let thy loving kindness and thy truth always preserve me!

For innumerable troubles are come about me;-my sins have taken such hold upon me that I am not able to look up; yea, they are more in number than the hairs of my head, and my heart hath failed me!

O Lord! let it be thy pleasure to deliver me; make haste, O Lord! to help

me.

Let all those that seek thee, be joyful and glad in thee;-and let such as love thy salvation, say alway, The Lord be praised!

As for me I am poor and in misery; but the Lord careth for me.

Thou art my helper and redeemer: make no long tarrying, O my God!

Psalms xli. xlii. lix. cxliv.

Why art thou so full of heaviness, O my Soul! and why art thou so disquieted within me?

Put thy trust in the Lord;-for I will give him thanks for the help of his countenance!

My God! my Soul is vexed within me; and my Spirit within me is desolate!

O Lord, be merciful unto me! heal my Soul, for I have sinned against thee! Comfort me, O Lord! when I lie sick on my bed ;-O make thou all my bed my sickness!

Lord, what is man that thou art mindful of him, or the Son of Man that thou so regardest him!

Man is like a thing of nought; his time passeth away like a shadow!

God sheweth me his goodness plenteously: for he is the God of my refuge!

My strength will I ascribe unto thee,

O Lord; when I was in my health, thou upheldest me!

Unto thee, O my strength will I sing; for thou O God! art my refuge, and my merciful God!

Why art thou so vexed, O my Soul! and why art thou so disquieted within me?

O put thy trust in God! for I will yet give him thanks who is the help of my countenance and my God!

Psalm lv.

Hear my prayer,

O Lord! and hide

not thy self from my petition.

Take heed unto me and hear me; how I mourn in my prayer, and am vexed! My heart is disquieted within me, and the fear of Death is fallen upon me! Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and a horrible dread hath overwhelmed me !

And I said, O that I had wings like a

dove, for then would I flee away and be

at rest!

I will call upon the Lord, and he shall hear me !

In the evening and morning, and noon day will I pray, and that instantly; and he shall hear my voice!

O cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall nourish thee; and shall not suffer the righteous to perish for ever!

Psalms lxiv. lxxix. cix. cxl. cxli.

I said unto the Lord, thou art my God; hear the voice of my Prayers, O Lord!

Hear my voice, O God! in my prayer: deal thou with me according to thy name; for sweet is thy mercy!

O deliver me, for I am helpless and poor, and my heart is wounded within

me!

I go hence like the shadow that departeth; and am driven away as the Grass-hopper!
