HYMN XXVIII. How short and hasty is our life! Our days run thoughtlessly along, God from on high invites us home, And, ever hast'ning to the tomb, HYMN XXXI. For Christmas-Day. BEHOLD the Lamb of God, Be ev'ry valley high, Be ev'ry mountain low! The proud shall stoop-the humble soul Shall his salvation know. The heathen realms abroad Shall join in sweet accord, And all the sons of inen shall see N HYMN XXX. For Christmas-day. THESaviour comes, by prophets long foretold Hear him, ye deaf, and all ye blind behold! He from thick films shall purge the visual ray, And on the sightless eyeball pour the day. He shall the paths of sound obstructed clear, No sigh,no murmur, the wide world shall hear And hell's grim tyrant feel th' eternal wound. He, as a shepherd carries in his arms. The tender lamb, and in his bosom warms, Explores the lost, the wand'ring sheep directs, By day o'ersees them, and by night protects. HYMN XXXI. For Christmas-Day. "To you in David's town this day "Is born, of David's line, "The SAVIOUR, who is CHRIST the LORD; "And this shall be the sign: The heav'nly babe you there shall find, "To human view display'd, "All meanly wrapp'd in wasthing bands, "And in a manger laid!" |
