to perish; but hast remembered us in our low estate, for thy mercy endureth for ever.

We approach thee, in the way which thou hast thyself appointed, through Jesus the Mediator of the new Covenant: for his sake lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us, and grant us every needful blessing,

Do thou, Lord, choose our inheritance for us; determine the bounds of our habitation; give us neither poverty nor riches; feed us with food convenient for us.

Grant especially that our souls may prosper before thee.

Give unto us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of thyself and of thy Son Jesus Christ: may the eyes of our understanding be enlightened;

that we may know what is the hope of thy calling, and what the riches of the glory of thine inheritance in the saints.

Make us diligent in the faithful discharge of our respective duties in life. Enable us to bear with patience and Christian resignation every trial that may be appointed us; and may all the dispensations of thy providence be sanctified to our real good.

Teach us to live as strangers and pilgrims on the earth; may we be looking, by faith, for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God; and do thou enable us to pass the time of our sojourning here in fear.

Let it please thee to give us true repentance; to forgive us all our sins, negligences, and ignorances;

We humbly implore thy blessing on all our dear friends and relatives; may they be thy children by adoption and grace; and do thou give them every temporal comfort that may be expedient for them.

Look with tender compassion on the poor and needy, the sick and afflicted, the aged and infirm. Bless them all, according to their several necessities, and sanctify their trials.

Let it please thee to have mercy upon all men; and, more especially, to bless and keep all thy people.

Make us truly thankful to thee for every instance of thy goodness towards ourselves and others, both in providence and in grace.

We bless thee for thy merciful care over us through the night past, and for the many comforts with which we are now surrounded: but above all for the gift of thy beloved Son, and the spiritual privileges which we enjoy through Him.

In his prevailing name we present these our unworthy services; beseeching thee to hear us while we call upon thee further in the words wherein He hath taught us to pray. Our Father, &c.

The Grace of our Lord, &c.

EVENING PRAYER III.

desire, this evening, to present ourselves before thee, at thy footstool, with feelings of devout gratitude and praise.

We know not what dangers we have escaped, or how many have been the deliverances which thou hast wrought out for us; but our spared lives, and the many blessings which we enjoy, testify that we are monuments of thy forbearance.

Thou hast not dealt with us after our sins, neither hast thou rewarded us according to our iniquities.

We thank thee, O Lord, for thy forbearance and mercy towards us, and for the many blessings which thou hast conferred upon us.

But, alas! we have not honoured thee as we ought to have done; we have not devoted ourselves to thee as
