need which we have of an interest in Him, and in all that He has done and suffered for us and for our salvation.

Grant us a true faith in Him for the pardon of our sins, and acceptance with thee; for peace of conscience, joy in the Holy Ghost, and the final attainment of everlasting life.

May we he renewed in the spirit of our minds, by the effectual operation of His special grace. May all carnal affections die in us, and all things belonging to the Spirit live and grow in us.

May the same mind be in us which was also in Christ Jesus: that we may be kind and tender-hearted, patient and forbearing, humble and submissive.

After his example, and according

to his injunction, may we bless them that curse us; do good to them that hate us; and pray for them which despitefully use us, and persecute us.

We thank thee, O Lord and hea

venly Father, that thou didst give thine only Son to be unto us both a sacrifice for sin, and also an ensample of godly life; give us grace therefore that we may always most thankfully receive that his inestimable benefit, and also daily endeavour ourselves to follow the blessed steps of his most holy life, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.

We present to thee, this evening, the tribute of our grateful praise for the comforts and blessings of the day past, and for all the mercies which thou hast conferred upon us from the earliest period of our lives.

Take us under thy gracious care, we humbly beseech thee, during the night-season; guard and defend us when we cannot even think about our own safety; and let no calamity approach to hurt us.

The same blessings, both temporal and spiritual, which we ask for ourselves, we earnestly implore for all those who are near and dear to us. May they be sustained by thy bountiful providence, guided by thy Holy Spirit, and at length received to thy heavenly glory.

Protect and defend thy Church against all assaults of the enemy; bless and keep thy faithful people; and have mercy upon all mankind.

Accept, O Lord, these our supplications and thanksgivings; not for any merit or righteousness of our

own, (for in this respect we have nothing to present unto thee;) but for thy own Name's sake, and through the mediation of Jesus Christ the Righteous, who died for our sins, and rose again for our justification. To Him, with the Father and the Holy Ghost, be honour and glory, for Amen.

MORNING PRAYER V.

O LORD, who art the refuge and strength of those who put their trust in thee, we humbly betake ourselves to thee for thy blessing, and implore thy mercy in the name of Jesus Christ.

Give ear to our prayer, O God;

and hide not thyself from our supplication; attend unto us, and hear us in thy righteousness and truth. We seek thy pardoning mercy, Lord, for we have sinned against thee, and transgressed thy commandments. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders.

Give us true repentance, and make us heartily sorry for all our sins and provocations; for all that we have committed against thee, in thought, word, or deed.
