instruct us with thy timely counsel. Our own resolutions are but frail and uncertain; do thou confirm and establish us with thy special grace. Our own strength is perfect weakness, do thou uphold and succour us with thy almighty power.

Thou knowest, O Lord, the groveling tendency of our affections, and the irregular workings of our desires; try us, we beseech thee, and seek the ground of our hearts; prove us, and examine our thoughts; look well if there be any way of wickedness in us; and lead us in the way everlasting.

Grant us, we beseech thee, a more humbling view of our own guilt and helplessness, together with a more animating confidence in the merits and sufficiency of our Saviour; may

we trust in Him at all times, and evermore rejoice in his Salvation.

Preserve us from day to day in thy steadfast faith and fear; direct us in the path of duty; and make us, in all things, and at all times, to seek thy honour and glory.

May we be indeed ashamed of our past neglect of thee, and of thy service; of the coldness and insensibility of our hearts; of our backwardness to engage in the employments of devotion; and of the feebleness of our efforts to adorn our Christian profession.

Stir us up, we beseech thee, to holy zeal, diligence, and exertion; quicken us by thy mighty power; and give to each of us an heart to love and dread thee, and diligently to live after thy commandments.

While we attend to our lawful and necessary concerns in the world, may we be kept from an undue attachment to earthly things, having our conversation in heaven.

Make us diligent and faithful in the discharge of all our relative duties; giving no occasion to the enemies of religion to reproach it on our

account.

Hear us, O Lord, in behalf of all sorts and conditions of men. Relieve the sick and needy; comfort the afflicted and distressed; instruct the ignorant; reclaim those who have backslidden; strengthen such as do stand; and direct inquiring souls into the way of salvation.

Receive, we beseech thee, our cordial thanks, for all thy mercies conferred upon us, both in temporal and

spiritual things. Pardon all our past ingratitude, as well as all our other sins. Help us to praise thee with all fervency of spirit for the time to come; and prepare us for thy kingdom and glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Grace of our Lord, &c.

EVENING PRAYER VI.

(SATURDAY.)

O LORD and heavenly Father, thou art good to all, and thy tender mercies are over all thy works. Thou art nigh unto all them that call upon thee, to all that call upon thee in truth.

We desire now to come into thy presence, in devout humiliation of

soul, but with the lively confidence of unfeigned faith.

Thy care over us has been graciously continued through another day and another week. We pray thee to accept our thanks for the many blessings which thou hast been pleased to confer upon us; and for the many comforts and privileges which we continue to enjoy.

We bless and praise thee, O Lord, for the spiritual light and religious liberty with which, through thy gracious Providence, we are so abundantly favoured.

We thank thee for the records of thy holy word, and the ministration of thy blessed Gospel; for the ordinances of thy grace, and the services of thy house.

We pray that we may be enabled
