WHICH MAY BE SEVERALLY INSERTED ON
THE FOLLOWING OCCASIONS.
MOST gracious and merciful God, who, as at this time, didst send thy Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved; grant us a true and lively faith in Him, that we may be partakers of all the benefits of His incarnation, following the steps of His most holy life, and constantly praising Him for the love wherewith He hath loved us, and the condescending grace which He manifested in visiting and redeeming His people, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.
LAST EVENING OF THE YEAR.
O LORD, as thou hast brought us to the close of another year of our short lives, stir us up, we pray thee, to becoming seriousness and reflection. Make us truly thankful for the innumerable mercies which we have received at thy hands; and for Jesus Christ's sake, forgive us all our sins, which we have committed against thee. Prepare us for the hour of death, for the end of time, and for the enjoyment of eternity, through the same, thy Son our Lord,
FIRST MORNING OF THE YEAR.
WE acknowledge with thankfulness, O our God, thy fatherly care over us, in bringing us safely to the beginning of another year. Give us grace, we pray thee, to devote ourselves afresh to thy service, and may we glorify thee, in newness of heart and life; that whenever our mortal course shall be completed, and our existence no longer measured by months and years, we may be for ever happy in thy presence and glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
GIVE us grace, we beseech thee, O heavenly Father, at this time more especially, so to contemplate the sufferings and death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, that while we are deeply abased on account of our sins, which nailed Him to the cross, we may be cheered and comforted with the joyful hope of everlasting life, as the purchase of his obedience unto death, and filled with gratitude to Him for his abounding love towards us, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.
