MORNING PRAYER I.

O LORD, heavenly Father, it is meet and right that we should bow the knee before thee, to adore thy sovereign Majesty, and to praise thee for thy goodness, which endureth yet daily.

Every morning thy mercies towards us are renewed; great is thy faithfulness.

Thanks be to thee for thy fatherly care of us through another night; we lay down and slept, and have risen in safety: surely thou, Lord, didst sustain us; surely thou art He that maketh us continually to dwell in safety.

To thee we are indebted, O heavenly Father, for the food which we eat, the raiment wherewith we are

clothed, and the comfortable habitation wherein we dwell: Blessed be thy name for these, and all other mercies pertaining to the present life.

Make us more especially thankful for the good word of thy grace; that we have the free use of our Bibles, and peaceable opportunities of worshipping thee in public and in pri

vate.

But, above all, we would bless and praise thee, O God, for thy wonderful love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ. For this we hope to sing and praise thy name through all eternity! Lord, help us to begin the song now in the house of our pilgrimage.

Open our lips this morning, that our mouths may shew forth thy praise; and help us to shew it, not

C

with our lips only, but in our lives; by giving up ourselves to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days.

Be with us this day, in our going out and coming in. Make us watchful and circumspect in all our walk and conversation.

Put thy fear into our hearts, O God, that we may be kept from sinning against thee. Make us truly desirous to know thy blessed will, and grant us grace, wisdom, and courage to perform it.

Keep us mindful, good Lord, of the deceitfulness of our hearts, that we may not venture into a world of danger and temptation, trusting in our own strength, or good resolutions; but may ever look up to thee

1

for wisdom to direct, for strength to support, and for grace to sanctify and keep us.

Enable us to preserve a conscience void of offence, both towards thee, and towards men; and to shew such meekness and gentleness in our whole carriage, as becomes the disciples of the Lord Jesus.

Subdue in us all pride and selfconceit: teach us, in lowliness of mind, to esteem others better than ourselves.

Grant us a proper frame of spirit under all the dispensations of thy providence. May we not be lifted up in heart, or forget thee in prosperity, nor murmur against thee in the day of adversity.

Hear us, in mercy, for his sake who loved us, and gave Himself for us.

To Him, with thyself, O Father, and the Holy Ghost, be ascribed all honour and glory, world without end. Our Father, &c.

The Grace of our Lord, &c.

EVENING PRAYER I.

O MERCIFUL and gracious Lord God, what shall we render unto thee for the blessings which we are continually receiving from thee!

Surely day testifieth unto day, and night unto night, that thou art good and kind to the unthankful and evil.

By thy protecting care and kind providence, we are brought so far towards the close of another day. Blessed be thy name for continued life and health; for our food and sustenance; and for safety and deliverance amidst dangers and difficulties.
