Thou knowest, Lord, how many of our fellow-creatures have been called into Eternity since we last worshipped at thy footstool, while we are yet in the land of the living. O that, as it becomes the living, we may praise thee unfeignedly, love thee supremely, and devote ourselves to thee unreservedly!

Be pleased, for thy Son Jesus Christ's sake, to look graciously upon us this evening. Lord, what wait we for? Surely our hope is even in thee: Thou alone canst make us happy; for with thee is the Well of Life, and it is only in thy light that we can see light.

Make us therefore humble and ashamed when we reflect upon our folly and sin, in forsaking thee the fountain of living waters, and seek

ing our happiness in temporal enjoy

ments.

May the time past suffice to have wrought such madness! Pardon us, good Lord, and make us wise, for the future, to know the things which belong to our peace.

Unite our hearts to fear thy name; draw out the desires of our souls after thee; may our best affections be fixed upon thee; and may we be enabled to rejoice in thee, as in Christ reconciling the world to thyself, not imputing their trespasses unto them.

Teach us ever to remember whose name we bear, and not only to depart from iniquity, but to abstain even from the appearance of evil, that the Gospel of Christ may not, on our account, be reproached by its adversaries.

Deliver us, good Lord, from an evil heart of unbelief; from self-sufficiency and pride. And every root of bitterness, which might spring up and trouble us, be pleased, in mercy, to take away.

Hear us graciously in behalf of those for whom we wish and ought to pray.

Bless all our dear friends and relations with every needful good for life and godliness. Reward our benefactors and well-wishers abundantly into their bosom. Forgive our enemies, and all that have injured us, and give us grace cordially to forgive them.

Take us, in mercy, under thy protection this night: Watch over us, and suffer no calamity to come nigh us, or our dwelling: Refresh these

frail bodies with needful repose; and keep us mindful that ere long we shall sleep to awake no more in this world: Whenever that solemn period shall come, may we be found ready for it, that we may sleep in Jesus, and awake to a joyful resurrection.

Lord, grant us these, and all other needful blessings, for his sake; to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, world without end.

Our Father, &c.

The Grace of our Lord, &c.

MORNING PRAYER II.

O THOU that makest the out-goings of the morning and evening to rejoice, fill our hearts with joy and gratitude this morning for surely we have

cause to bless thee, and to rejoice in thee.

Thou hast, in great kindness, been pleased to deliver us from the perils of darkness, and hast spared us to see the light of another day.

Many calamities might have befallen us, but thou hast in mercy preserved us from all accept the tribute of our praise, feeble and imperfect as it is, and help us to praise and serve thee better.

We desire now again to commit ourselves into thy hands. Be thou our defender and comforter this day. Direct us in the path of our duty : protect us from dangers, and cheer our hearts with the light of thy coun

tenance.

Make us, in all things, desirous to please, and fearful to offend thee.
