nually threaten both our bodies and our souls; and thou, Lord, only canst effectually defend and save us. Take us therefore under thy care. Watch over us for good; and in every lawful undertaking vouchsafe us thy blessing.

Teach us to set thee continually before us. In all our ways may we acknowledge thee; and do thou in mercy direct our paths.

Grant, Lord, that our necessary engagements in this world may never make us unmindful of another, or cause us to loiter in our spiritual course; but may we have grace so to pursue things temporal, that we lose not finally the things which are eternal.

May we be of the number of those who are hungering and thirsting af

ter righteousness. May we be earnestly desirous to know more of thee the only true God, and of Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.

O leave us not foolishly to pride ourselves in the name of Christians, while destitute of the Spirit of Christ, and unacquainted with the power and influence of his Gospel.

Give us to see our need of Him and of his salvation, if we have not yet seen it; if we have, keep us ever mindful of it, and quicken our desires after an increasing knowledge of him.

Keep us, this day, O Lord, in thy fear, and in the path of duty: may our thoughts, words and actions be under thy govervance: may no temptation of the world, the flesh or the devil prevail against us, but may our

conversation be as becometh the Gospel of Christ, in all sobriety, godliness, and honesty; and whatever we do, in word or deed, may we do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks unto God and the Father through Him.

Lord, make us thankful for all thy blessings in providence and grace. May the streams of goodness which flow from thee, direct our hearts to thee, the fountain of all good, in love and gratitude unfeigned.

Hear us, O gracious God, for the sake of Jesus Christ our only Lord and Saviour, in whose holy name, and comprehensive form of words, we now conclude our requests unto thee, saying,

Our Father, &c.

The Grace of our Lord, &c.

We are not indeed worthy to offer to thee any sacrifice; we are not worthy even to come into thy presence; but, blessed be thy name, thou hast provided a way for us: through our Lord Jesus Christ we are not only permitted, but encouraged to come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Lord, as guilty sinners, we need

mercy; as frail creatures, we need grace and strength continually. O remember us, and deal with us according to thy goodness. Open the stores of thy bounty, O thou that givest liberally, and upbraidest not! We are here before thee needy and destitute; bringing, as it were, our empty vessels; Lord, give unto us of the water of Life; replenish us out of the fulness which is in Christ Jesus.

Thou knowest, O Lord, our several cases and circumstances much better than we are able to describe them; and thou knowest what blessings will be most suitable to each of us. O bestow them upon us, that our souls may praise thee. And whatever may be needful to promote our real growth in grace and holi
