fore, for the prize of our high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Let it please thee to direct, sanctify, and govern both our hearts and bodies in the ways of thy laws, and in the works of thy command

ments.

May thy grace subdue every evil temper and affection in us; and cause the fruits of thy blessed Spirit to appear and abound in our whole walk and conduct, that we may adorn the doctrine of GOD our Saviour in all things.

Be thou, O Lord, our keeper this night, as thou hast been through the day past. Graciously give charge to thy angels to pitch their tents around our beds; and may we rise in the morning with fresh vigour, to run the way of thy commandments with

out weariness, and to walk therein without fainting.

Hear our prayers, which we desire to offer up in behalf of our fellowcreatures, and fellow-christians. Let thy blessing be upon them, according as they stand in need.

Remember the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Bless our Sovereign, [his Royal Consort, the Heir Apparent, and every branch of the family.]* Give wisdom and uprightness to the King's Privy Council, and to all our nobility, judges, and magistrates. Bless the commonalty and poor of these realms: Increase the number of thy people daily, by adding to them such as shall be saved.

*These words to be used, or omitted, as occasion may require.

Bless thy faithful ministers, wherever they are employed in thy vineyard; and make their labours abundantly useful.

Have compassion upon the sick and afflicted, the aged and infirm, widows and orphans; support and comfort them as their cases require.

Finally, bless all our friends, forgive our enemies, and receive these our prayers through Jesus Christ our Mediator and Redeemer.

Enter not into judgment with us, for we cannot answer thee to one charge of a thousand. We are verily guilty before thee. Our transgressions are more in number than the hairs of our head; and they are not only many, but heinous too. We confess, O Lord, with shame, that we have sinned against light and knowledge ; we have sinned

against great mercies and privileges; we have sinned against our own vows and resolutions. We desire not therefore to justify ourselves, but to confess before thee, that we are utterly unclean.

Yet, glory be to thee that there is forgiveness with thee; that there is a fountain opened for sin and for uncleanness. Lord, pardon and cleanse us; purge us, and we shall be clean; wash us, and we shall be whiter than snow. Hide thy face from our sins, and blot out all our iniquities. Look upon the face of Jesus Christ thine anointed, and shew thyself in Him reconciled unto us.

Remember us, for his sake, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people, and visit us with thy salvation. O give us to see the
