felicity of thy chosen, to rejoice in the gladness of thy people, and to give thanks with thine inheritance.

Thou hast been pleased, in great kindness, to preserve us during the darkness and dangers of another night accept our thanks for that and every mercy. O may we never be guilty of forgetting thy favours, because they are common.

Grant us thy gracious presence through the day on which we are now entering. Without this what good will life do us? We shall but walk in a vain shadow, and disquiet ourselves in vain; but lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us, and that shall give us peace.

Enable us to discharge the several duties of this day with diligence and faithfulness, as becomes the disciples

of Christ, and servants of the Most High God.

Deliver us from idleness and trifling, that we may not give the Tempter an advantage over us, nor disgrace our holy profession; but whatever our hands find to do in the way of duty, may we do it with all our might.

Yet, deliver us, O Lord, on the other hand, from too great attachment to the things of time and sense. O teach us the happy art so to use the present world, as those who do not abuse it.

Bless us as a family; regard our several states and conditions; implant thy fear in each of our hearts; write thy laws upon our minds; be thou our God, and may we be thy reconciled children in Christ Jesus.

Regard, in mercy, our dear friends and relatives, and all others for whom we ought to pray; give them, for Jesus Christ's sake, every needful blessing.

And now, O Lord, be pleased to accept our humble tribute of thanks for all the tokens of thy kindness to us: we cannot count the number of them; but grant we may ever retain such a sense of them, as may cause us to love and praise thee all our lives, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Our Father, &c.

The Grace of our Lord, &c.

EVENING PRAYER V.

O LORD God of our salvation, day and night will we cry unto thee. Let our prayer enter into thy pre

calling.

Incline thine ear unto our

We confess that we are unworthy to approach thee; but thou, Lord, art good and gracious, and of great mercy unto all them that call upon thee in Christ Jesus.

In his name we now come before thee; in his merits we trust; of his righteousness we would make mention, and of that only. Look not therefore upon us in thine anger; though we justly deserve it; but turn thee unto us, and have mercy upon us. Comfort the souls of thy servants, for unto thee, O Lord, do we lift up our souls.

To whom else should we seek? For who is a God like unto thee, that pardonest iniquity, and passest by the transgression of the remnant

of thine heritage; that retainest not thy anger for ever, because thou delightest in mercy?

We are conscious, O Lord, that we have rebelled against thee, and therefore justly deserve to experience thine anger; but O be not displeased at us for ever; for Jesus Christ's sake turn again and quicken us, that thy people may rejoice in thee.

We have abundant cause to bless thee for what thou hast done, and continuest to do for us. Thy power

protects us; thy hand feeds us; thy goodness supplies us with with every blessing that tends to make life comfortable.

For these things it becomes us to praise thee, yet there are greater things than these which call for our gratitude and love.
