fore thee, that we are too much attached to things below; that earthly trifles so engage us as to rob our souls of much spiritual comfort. Truly, O Lord, through our sins and wickedness we are sore let and hindered in running the race that is set before O let thy bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us.

us.

Grant, O merciful God, that the old Adam may be so buried in each of us, that the new man may be raised up in us.

Grant that all carnal affections may die in us, and that all things belonging to the Spirit may live and grow in us.

Grant that we may have power and strength to have victory, and to triumph against the devil, the world, and the flesh.

Grant us ever to have fellowship with thee, O heavenly Father, and with thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

May we not be of the number of those who walk in darkness, and only mind earthly things; but may we live as those whose conversation is in heaven, and who seek those things which are above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God.

Be pleased graciously to accept our thanks for the continuance of thy kindness through another day. Surely to thee only we are indebted for every comfort we have received, and every peril we have escaped. Take us, merciful Father, under thy care this night. Pardon the sins of this day and of our whole lives. Spread now thy wing over us, so shall no harm happen unto us.

Remember all for whom we ought to pray. Bless all Christian ministers, wherever they are employed in thy vineyard. Water them abundantly with the dew of thy Holy Spirit. Deliver them from the fear of man, from seeking the applause of men, and from preaching themselves, or any thing else, instead of Christ Jesus the Lord.

O pardon our schisms, divisions, and want of brotherly love. Heal the breaches of thy people. Build the walls of Zion, and strengthen them, that the gates of hell may not prevail against them.

Pity the sick and afflicted: relieve those that are destitute: be the father of the fatherless, and the God of the widow; and do for us, and all for whom we should pray, more than

we ask or think, for Jesus Christ's

sake.

SECOND SERIES.

LORD'S DAY MORNING.

ALMIGHTY and gracious God, who, in thy wisdom and goodness, didst cause the Sabbath to be made for man; for his repose, for his instruction, for the comfort and refreshment of his soul; we humbly pray thee that these ends may be answered upon us this day. May it be to us a day of rest from worldly cares and disquietudes, as well as from vanity and trifling.

May our hearts be prepared by thee (for to thee the preparation of the heart in man appertaineth), that we may receive humbly and thank
