fully the instruction that maketh wise unto salvation; and may thy good Spirit seal it effectually upon our minds.

We thank thee that we are brought to see another Sabbath in safety and peace; that it hath pleased thee to keep from us disaster and calamity during the night-season.

We thank thee that we can enjoy our Sabbaths in quietness and peace; that we have no persecution or oppression of the enemy to disturb thine ordinances, or to alarm thy humble worshippers; but that we can without fear go to the house of our God, both to present the tribute of our prayers and praises, and to receive the messages of thy grace, and the instructions of thy holy word.

Bless us, gracious God, in these

exercises, this day. Enable us to worship thee in spirit and in truth. May our prayers be accompanied with a true sense of our wants, and a firm belief that thou alone canst effectually supply them. May our confessions be attended with genuine humility and contrition of heart before thee; our thanksgivings with sincere and lively gratitude for thy manifold mercies, and our intercessions with true Christian charity.*

Grant, O Lord, we beseech thee, that with meek heart and due reverence, we may hear and receive thy holy word: may it be to each of us the source of comfort, encouragement, and support.

More especially we pray that the

glad tidings of the Gospel may cheer and refresh our souls; and that Jesus Christ, whom it proclaims as the Saviour of sinners, may be all our salvation and all our desire. O may we rejoice in Him evermore, and live under the influence of his Holy Spirit.

Let thy gracious presence, this day, be with all the ministers of thy word. Assist and direct them, that they may speak the truth in love; and may thus be made instrumental in setting forth thy glory, and setting forward the salvation of all

men.

Let thy blessing be vouchsafed to all the congregations of thy saints. Wheresoever two or three are assembled together in the name of Jesus Christ, be thou with them to do

them good. May thy word be sanctified to the welfare of their souls; and do thou fulfil their desires and petitions as may be most expedient for them; granting them in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting.

Look with compassion, we beseech thee, upon heathen lands. O visit them with the light of thy truth; and let all the ends of the earth see the salvation of our God.

May thy blessing rest upon all Societies and Institutions which have as their object the more extended propagation of the truth as it is in Jesus.

We commend to thy fatherly goodness all those who are any ways afflicted or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; as well as all those who

desire to be remembered by us in our intercessions.

Hear us, O merciful Father, accept and bless us, through the merits and mediation of thy Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

LORD'S DAY EVENING.

MOST gracious and merciful God,

the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and, through Him, of all those who believe in his name; we desire to present ourselves before thee, this evening, in unfeigned humility, and with lively gratitude.

We are utterly unworthy of the many favours which thou art continually conferring upon us; we have
