3 Be this my one great bus'ness here,
With serious industry and fear,
My future bliss t' ensure.
Thine utmost counsel to fulfil,
And suffer all Thy righteous will,
And to the end endure.

1280 GOD of Bethel, by whose hand

C.

Thy people still are fed;

Who through their weary pilgrimage
Hast all our fathers led.

2 Our vows, our prayers, we now present
Before Thy throne of grace;

God of our fathers, be the God
Of each succeeding race.

3 Through this perplexing path of life
Our wand'ring footsteps guide;
Give us each day our daily bread,
And raiment fit provide.

4 Oh, spread Thy cov'ring wings around,
Till all our wand'rings cease;
And at our father's lov'd abode
Our souls arrive in peace.

129 O

GOD! our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,

C. Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal Home.

2 Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure :
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.

3 Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all our lives away;

We fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the op'ning day.

4 O God! our Help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come;

Be Thou our Guard while life shall last,
And our eternal Home!

1300 GOD, unseen, yet ever near,

с

L.

Thy presence may we feel;
And thus inspired with holy fear
Before thy table kneel!

2 Here may Thy faithful people know
The blessings of Thy love;

The streams that through the desert flow,
The manna from above!

3 We come, obedient to Thy word,
To feast on heav'nly food;
Our meat, the body of the Lord;
Our drink, His precious blood.
4 Thus may we all Thy words obey,
For we, O God, are Thine;
And go rejoicing on our way,
Renew'd with strength divine.

131 KING of Kings, Thy blessings sned
0
On our anointed Sovereign's head;
And, looking from Thy throne in heaven,
Protect the crown Thyself hast given.
2 Her, for Thy sake, may we obey;
Uphold her right and love her sway;
Rememb'ring, all the Powers that be
Are ministers ordain'd by Thee.
3 By her this favour'd nation bless;
To her wise counsels give success;
In

peace, in war, Thine aid be seen;
Confirm her strength: Oh, save our Queen!
4 And when all earthly thrones decay,
And earthly glories fade away,

Give her a nobler throne on high,
A crown of immortality!

132 (LORD! I would delight in Thee,

C.

And on Thy care depend;
To Thee in every trouble flee,
My best, my only Friend.

2 When all created streams are dried,

Thy fulness is the same;
May I with this be satisfied,
And glory in Thy name!

3 No good in creatures can be found,
But may be found in Thee;

I must have all things, and abound,
While God is God to me.

4 O Lord, I cast my care on Thee,
I triumph and adore;

Henceforth my great concern shall be
To love and please Thee more.

133 0

LORD! in all our trials here,
Whate'er those trials be,

C. Help us, without one doubt or fear,
To cast our care on Thee.

2 To look from earth to yon bright sky,
And there by faith behold

The glories hid from mortal eye,
To mortal ear untold!

3 And if contempt, reproach, or loss,
We suffer for Thy name;

Teach us to triumph in the cross,
To glory in the shame.

134 O

C.

LORD! turn not Thy face from me,
Who lie in woeful state:
Lamenting all my sinful life,
Before Thy mercy gate.

2 Nor call me, Lord, to strict account,
How I have sojourn'd here;

For then my guilty conscience knows
How vile I shall appear.

3 I need not to confess my life,

To Thee who best canst tell
What I have been, and what I am;
I know Thou knowst it well.

4 Therefore with tears I come to beg,
Of my offended God,

For pardon, like a child that dreads
His angry parent's rod.

5 O Lord! I need not to repeat
The comfort I would have:

Thou knowst, O Lord! before I ask,
The blessings I do crave.

6 Mercy, good Lord, mercy, I ask!
This is the total sum;

For mercy, Lord, is all my suit,
Lord, let Thy mercy come!

135 0THOU, from whom all goodness flows,

I lift my heart to Thee;

C. In all my sorrows, conflicts, woes,
O Lord, remember me!

2 When on my aching, burden'd heart
My sins lie heavily,

Thy pardon grant, Thy peace impart,
In love remember me!

3 When trials sore obstruct my way,
And ills I cannot flee,

Oh, let my strength be as my day,
For good remember me!

4 When worn with pain, disease, and grief,
This feeble body see;

Give patience, rest, and kind relief,
Hear, and remember me!

5 When in the solemn hour of death
I wait Thy just decree,

Be this the prayer of my last breath-
"O Lord, remember me!"

136 THOU, to whose all-searching sight

L.

The darkness shineth as the light,
Search, prove my heart, it pants for Thee:
Oh, burst these bonds, and set it free!
2 If in this darksome wild I stray,

Be Thou my Light, be Thou my Way;
No foes, no violence I fear,

No danger while my God is near.

3 When rising floods my soul o'erflow,
When sinks my heart in waves of woe,
Jesus, Thy timely aid impart,
And raise my head, and cheer

my heart.
4 Saviour, where'er Thy steps I see,
Dauntless, untir'd, I follow Thee!
Oh, let Thy hand support me still,
And lead me to Thy holy hill.

137 THOU, who hast at Thy command

L.

The hearts of all men in Thy hand!

Our wayward, erring hearts incline
To have no other will than Thine,

2 Our wishes, our desires, control:
Mould every purpose of the soul:
O'er all may we victorious be,

That stands between ourselves and Thee.

3 And while we to Thy glory live,
May we to Thee all glory give,
Until the joyful summons come
That calls Thy willing servants home.

138 OH, worship the King, all glorious above,

r.

Oh, gratefully sing His power and His love,

Our shield and defender, the Ancient of days,
Pavilion'd in splendour, and girded with

praise.
