4 Glory to God in highest strains,
In highest worlds be paid;
His glory by our lips proclaim'd
And by our lives display'd.

TOLY, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty!

75 HOLY

Early in the morning shall our song rise to P. Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty! [Thee; God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

2 Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the
glassy sea;

Cherubim and Seraphim, falling down before
Thee,

Which wert, and art, and evermore shall be!
3 Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may

not see;

Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity!

4 Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth,
and sky, and sea;

Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

76 HOLY Spirit, from on high

7s.

Bend on us a pitying eye;
Animate the drooping heart,
Bid the power of sin depart.
2 Light up every dark recess
Of our heart's ungodliness;
Show us every devious way
Where our steps have gone astray.
S Teach us, with repentant grief,
Humbly to implore relief:

Then the Saviour's blood reveal,
All our deep disease to heal.

4 May we daily grow in grace,
And pursue the heavenly race,
Train'd by wisdom, led by love,
Till we reach our rest above.

OSANNA to the living Lord!
Hosanna to th' Incarnate Word!
To Christ, Creator, Saviour, King,
Let earth, let heaven Hosanna sing.
2 O Saviour! with protecting care,
Be with us in Thy house of prayer,
Assembled in Thy sacred name,
Where we Thy parting promise claim.
3 But, chiefest in our cleansed breast,
Eternal! bid Thy Spirit rest;
And make our inmost soul to be
A temple pure, and worthy Thee!
4 So, in the last and dreadful day,
When earth and heaven shall melt away,
Thy flock, redeem'd from sinful stain,
Shall swell the sound of praise again.

OW beauteous are their feet

Who stand on Sion's hill;
Who speak salvation to the world,
And words of peace reveal!

2 How happy are our ears,

That hear the joyful sound,
Which kings and prophets waited for,
And sought, but never found.

3 How blessed are our eyes,
That see this heavenly light!
Prophets and kings desir'd it long,
But died without the sight.

4

O Lord! make bare Thine arm,
Send forth Thy truth abroad;
And let the nations all behold
Their Saviour and their God.

79 HOW bright these glorious spirits shine!

Whence all their bright array?

C. How came they to the blissful seats
Of everlasting day?

2 Lo, these are they from sufferings great
Who came to realms of light;

And in the blood of Christ have wash'd
Those robes which shine so bright.

3 The Lamb who dwells amidst the throne
Shall over them preside,

Feed them with nourishment divine
And all their footsteps guide.

4 'Midst pastures green He 'll lead His flock
Where living streams appear,
And God, the Lord, from every eye
Shall wipe off every tear.

OW sweet the name of Jesus sounds
In a believer's ear!

It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.

2 It makes the wounded spirit whole,
It calms the troubled breast;

'Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary rest.

3 Dear Name! the rock on which I build,
My shield and hiding-place;
My never-failing treas'ry, filled
With boundless stores of grace.

4 Jesus, my Saviour, Shepherd, Friend,
My Prophet, Priest, and King!
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End!
Accept the praise I bring.

5 Weak is the effort of my heart,

And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see Thee as Thou art,
I'll praise Thee as I ought.

KNOW that my Redeemer lives:
What joy this blessed knowledge gives!

He lives, arisen from the dead;

He lives, my everlasting Head.

2 He lives to bless me with His love,
And still He pleads for me above;
He lives to raise me from the grave,
And me eternally to save.

3 He lives, within my heart to dwell,
And save me from the power of hell;
To comfort me whene'er I faint,
And soothe my heaviest complaint.
4 He lives my mansion to prepare ;
And He will bring me safely there;
He lives, all glory to His name!
Jesus unchangeably the same.

82 I'LL praise my Maker while I've breath,

P.

And when my voice is lost in death,
Praise shall employ my nobler powers:
My days of praise shall ne'er be past
While life, and thought, and being last,
Or immortality endures.

2 Happy the man whose hopes rely
On Israel's God: He made the sky,

And earth, and seas, with all their train;
His truth for ever stands secure ;
He saves the opprest, He feeds the poor;
And none shall find His promise vain.
3 The Lord gives eye-sight to the blind,
The Lord supports the sinking mind,
He sends the lab'ring conscience peace;
He helps the stranger in distress,
The widow and the fatherless,

And grants the pris'ner sweet release.
4 I'll praise Him while He lends me breath;
And when my voice is lost in death,

Praise shall employ my nobler powers ;

My days of praise shall ne'er be past,
While life, and thought, and being last,
Or immortality endures.

PRAIS'D the earth, in beauty seen. With garlands gay, and varied green ; 6 8s. I prais'd the sea, whose ample field Shone glorious as a silver shield; And earth and ocean seem'd to say, Our beauties are but for a day. 2 I prais'd the sun, whose chariot roll'd On wheels of amber and of gold; I praised the moon, whose softer eye Gleam'd sweetly through the summer sky; And moon and sun, in answer, said, Our days of light are numbered. 3 O God! O Good beyond compare! If thus Thy meaner works are fair; If thus Thy beauties gild the span Of ruin'd earth and sinful man; How glorious must the mansion be, Where Thy redeem'd shall dwell with Thee! ERUSALEM! my happy home!

C. When shall my labours have an end
In joy, and peace, and Thee?

2 When shall these eyes thy heav'n-built walls
And gates of pearl behold?

Thy bulwarks, with salvation strong,
And streets of shining gold?

3 Why should I shrink at pain and woe,
Or feel at death dismay?
I've Canaan's goodly land in view,
And realms of endless day.

4 Jerusalem, my happy home!

My soul still pants for thee;

Soon shall my conflicts have an end
In joy, and peace, and thee.
