Messiah comes.
HEAR the glad sound, the Saviour comes,

The Saviour promis'd long !
Let every

heart

prepare a throne,
And every voice a song.
2 He comes, the prisoners to release,

In Satan's bondage held ;
The gates of brass before Him burst,

The iron fetters yield.
3 He comes, the broken heart to bind,

The bleeding soul to cure ;
And, with the treasures of His grace,

T enrich the humble poor.
4 Our glad hosannas, Prince of Peace,

Thy welcome shall proclaim ;
And heaven's eternal arches ring
With Thy beloved name.

Psalm VIII.
JEHOVAH, Lord of power and might,

How glorious is Thy name !
The blaze of day, the pomp of night,

Thy majesty proclaim.
2 Lord, what is man, weak, sinful man,

That he Thy care should prove;
That Thou for him shouldst deign to plan

Such mighty acts of Love !
3 Made in Thine image at his birth

Next to the heavenly host,
And sovereign of the new-form'd earth,

Each privilege he lost.

4 Then did the pitying Saviour leave

The glories of the sky, (O love too wondrous to conceive !)

For sinful man to die :
5 To die, that we, by grace restor’d,

Might life and glory claim,
O great Creator, Saviour, Lord,

How excellent Thy name.
9. The Resurrection.
COME, see the place where Jesus lay,

For He hath left His gloomy bed ; What angel rollid the stone away

? What Spirit brought Him from the dead ? 2 By His omnipotence He rose,

By His own Spirit lived again ;
To crush for ever all His foes,

To raise for ever ruin'd men.
3 Those who His image here partake,

Tho' worms in dust their flesh consume, Shall sleep in Jesus, and awake

To life eternal from the tomb. 10. Christ is Risen.

SEVENS. CHRIST the Lord is risen to-day,”

Sons of men, and angels say; Raise your joys and triumphs high ;

Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply. 2 Love's redeeming work is done ;

Fought the fight, the battle won;
Lo! the sun's eclipse is o'er, -
Lo! he sets in blood no more.

EIGHTS.

3 Vain the stone, the watch, the seal,

Christ has burst the gates of hell ;
Death in vain forbids Him rise ;

Christ has open'd Paradise.
4 Lives again our glorious King!

Where, 0 death, is now thy sting ?
Once He died, our souls to save ;

“Where's thy victory, boasting grave ?” 11.

Ascension Day.
THE Saviour to glory is gone,

His sufferings and sorrows are past,
His work is completed and done;

And shall to eternity last.
Our King shall protect us from harm;

Our Advocate make our plea good ;
Our Shepherd will bear in His arms

The sheep He has bought with His blood. 2 Our Prophet will point out the way

Which leads to the mansions above;
Our Priest all our ransom shall pay,

Our Friend of unchangeable love.
But whilst to the Lamb on His throne

Our hearts and our voices we raise;
His glory exalted we own

Above all our blessings and praise.
12. Saturday Night.
BEGONE, my worldly cares! away,

Nor dare to tempt my sight;
Let me begin the holy day,

Before I end this night.

2 Jesus! how pleasing is the sound ! How worthy of my

love! Why is

my

heart so lifeless found ?
Why plac'd no more above ?
3 Let the past mercies of the week

Excite a grateful frame;
Nor let my tongue refuse to speak

Some good of Jesu’s name.
4 Then, if I learn to seek Thy face,

By Christ the living way;
I'll praise Thee for this hour of grace

Through an eternal day.

Psalm LXXII.

AS the dew from heaven distilling,

Gently on the grass descends, And revives it, thus fulfilling

What Thy providence intends : Let Thy doctrine, Lord, so gracious,

Thus descending from above, Blest by Thee, prove efficacious

To fulfil Thy work of love. 2 Lord, behold this congregation;

Precious promises fulfil ;
From Thy holy habitation,

Let the dew of life distil :
Let our cry come up before Thee,

Sweetest influence shed around ;
So Thy people shall adore Thee,

And confess the joyful sound.

14. Nativity. (Luke ii. 25.) 8,7. COME, Thou long-expected Jesus,

Born to set Thy people free ; From our fears and sins release us,

Let us find our rest in Thee ! Israel's strength and consolation,

Hope of all the earth Thou art; Dear desire of

every nation, Joy of every longing heart. 2 Born Thy people to deliver ;

Born a child, and yet a king ;
Born to reign in us for ever,

Now Thy gracious kingdom bring :
By Thy own eternal Spirit,

Rule in all our hearts alone :
By Thine all-sufficient merit,

Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

15. The Lord's Day.
WHEN, O my Saviour, when shall I

Behold Thee all serene;
Blest in perpetual sabbath-day,

Without a veil between ? 2 Assist me, while I wander here,

Amidst a world of cares ; Incline

my heart to pray with love,
And then accept my prayers.
3 Thy Spirit, O my Father, give,

To be my guide and friend,
To light my path to ceaseless joys,

To sabbaths without end.
