From sin and sorrow set us free, 2 Chase from our minds th' infernal foe, Who for lost man's redemption died; Eternal Comforter, to Thee! 77. At a Funeral. C.M. BENEATH our feet, and o'er our head, Beneath us lie the countless dead, Above us is the heaven! 2 Death rides on every passing breeze, Each season has its own disease, 3 Turn, mortal, turn! thy danger know; Where'er thy foot can tread, The earth rings hollow from below, 4 Turn, sinner, turn! thy soul apply The bones that underneath thee lie 78. Psalm CIV. P.M. WORSHIP the King, all glorious O gratefully sing His power and His love; Pavilioned in splendour, and girded with 2 O tell of His might; O sing of His grace; Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space : His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form, And dark is His path on the wings of the storm. 3 This earth, with its store of wonders untold, Almighty, Thy power hath founded of old; Hath 'stablished it fast by a changeless decree, And round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea. 4 Thy bountiful care what tongue can recite, It breathes in the air, it shines in the light; It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain, And sweetly distils in the dew and the rain. 5 Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail, In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail ; Thy mercies how tender, how sure to the end; Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend. 79. "We Praise Thee, O God." WE Thee, O Triune God, adore! L.M. Acknowledging Thy wondrous might! Whilst earth around, from shore to shore, Proclaims it thro' each day and night. 2 To Thee, aloud, archangel's cry! The heavens and all the powers therein ! Thrice Holy Lord, Thou King on high, O'er cherub and o'er seraphim! 3 Apostles, Prophets, Martyrs, sing Thro' blissful and unnumbered days. And raise us from this world of woe. 80. A Prayer. P.M. LORD, Thou hast enlarg'd our bounds, Here in Thy name once more we meet ; Let praise and prayer, in joyful sounds, Now rise before Thy mercy-seat. Let praise ascend for sins forgiven, 2 O Lord, let all Thy mercies flow 3 O let the Spirit's sovereign voice Each soul, 'till all shall bear their part Then join the glorious hosts above, 81. Christ the best Friend. ONE there is above all others, P.M. Well deserves the name of Friend; His is love beyond a brother's, prove, 2 Which of all our friends, to save us, Could, or would, have shed His blood; But our Jesus died to have us 3 When He lived on earth abased, He rejoices in the same: Still He calls them brethren, friends; 4 Oh, for grace our hearts to soften ; Teach us, Lord, at length to love; We, alas! forget too often What a friend we have above : But, when home our souls are brought, 82. Confidence in God. WHEN I can read my title clear To mansions in the skies, I bid farewell to every fear, And wipe my weeping eyes. 2 Should earth against my soul engage, 3 Let cares like a wild deluge come, May I but safely reach my home, My God, my heaven, my all! 4 There shall I bathe my weary soul And not a wave of trouble roll 83. Christ a Refuge in Distress. C.M. 6,8. GOD! my heart within me faints, And pours in sighs her deep complaints; Yet many a thought shall linger still, By Carmel's height, and Tabor's rill; The Olive Mount my Saviour trod, The rocks that saw and owned their God. |
