with whom the souls of the faithful, after they are delivered from the burthen of the flesh, are in joy and felicity; we give thee hearty thanks for the good examples of all those thy servants, who, having finished their course in faith, do now rest from their labors. And we beseech thee, that we, with all those who are departed in the true faith of thy holy name, may have our perfect consummation and bliss in thy heavenly and everlasting glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

MERCIFUL God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the resurrection and the life; in whom whosoever believeth shall live, though he die; and whosoever liveth and believeth in him shall not die eternally; who also hath taught us by his holy apostle, St. Paul, not to be sorry, as men without hope, for those who sleep in him; we humbly beseech thee, O Father, to raise us from the death of sin unto the life of righteousness; that, when we shall depart this life, we may rest in him; and that, at the resurrection to eternal life, we may be found acceptable in thy sight, and receive that blessing which thy well-beloved Son shall then pronounce to all that love and fear thee, saying, Come, ye blessed children of my Father, receive the kingdom prepared for you from the beginning of the world. Grant this, we beseech thee, O merciful Father, through Jesus Christ our Mediator and Redeemer. Amen.

ALMIGHTY and ever-living God, we fly to thee as to our eternal refuge; we rest ourselves

upon thee, the Rock of Ages. We see thy hand in all the circumstances of our lives. We confess the wisdom which created us of the dust; and bow to the decree which has determined, that unto dust we shall return. Thou knowest our frame, thou rememberest that we are but dust; we therefore pray thee, help our infirmities, and pitifully behold the sorrows of our hearts. Sanctify to this family the affliction which thou hast called them to bear. Pour into their troubled minds the consolations of thy Spirit, and teach them to turn this sorrow to their eternal good. May they be still, and know that thou art God, and that thou dost not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men. May they resign, without murmuring, this object of their love, assured that though lost to them, he lives to thee. May they endure tribulation as becometh thy children, and disciples of thy Son Jesus Christ.

O Lord, regard all thy servants in mercy. us through this valley of tears with safety and peace, with holiness and religion, with spiritual comfort and joy; that when we shall have served thee in our generations, we may be gathered unto our fathers, having the testimony of a good conscience, and in the hope that neither death nor life, nor things present, nor things to come, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

LORD, our God, who sendest forth thy spirit, and we are created, who takest away our breath, and we die, and return to the dust; blessed be thy

name for the assurance of eternal life which thou hast given us by thy beloved Son. Blessed be thy

holy name for the faith which we cherish, that this corruptible shall put on incorruption, and this mortal, immortality; and that when the night of the grave is past, a glorious morning will come; when thou shalt wipe away all tears from our eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, nor pain.

Let this immortal hope, and the comforts of thy gracious Spirit, sustain, in this their bereavement, the family and friends of our departed brother. Be thou, O God, their refuge, and their consolation, and their sure trust. The more they are brought to perceive that things seen are temporal, so much the more may they find that the things which are unseen are eternal; that thou art faithful, and that Christ is worthy, and that heaven, and not earth, is their home. May they embrace thy promises and be thankful; may they know that thou art God, and be still.

And grant, we beseech thee, O holy Father and eternal Judge, that we may all live mindful of our mortality, and prepared for thy will; and that, when thou sayest unto us, Return, ye children of men, we may hear the command without dismay, and obey it without reluctance; knowing whom we have believed, and persuaded that he is able to keep that which we have committed to him, against that day. We offer our prayers through him who is the resurrection and the life, thy Son Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore.

Amen.

At the Burial of the Dead at Sea, the preceding Service may be used; only instead of these words, We therefore commit his body to the ground, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; looking for, &c., shall be said, We therefore commit his body to the deep, to be turned into corruption; in sure and certain hope, etc.

END OF THE BURIAL SERVICE.

BLESSED is the man who walketh not in the

counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he exercise himself day and night.

He shall be like a tree planted by the water side, that will bring forth his fruit in due season.

His leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth, it shall prosper.

As for the ungodly, it is not so with them; but they are like the chaff which the wind scattereth

away.

Therefore the ungodly shall not be able to stand
