He numbereth the stars; and calleth them all by their names.

Great is our Lord, and great is his power; yea, and his wisdom is infinite.

The Lord lifteth up the meek; and bringeth the ungodly down to the ground.

O sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praises upon the harp unto our God;

Who covereth the heaven with clouds, and prepareth rain for the earth, and maketh the grass to grow upon the mountains ;

Who giveth to the beast his food, and feedeth the young ravens that cry.

He hath no pleasure in the strength of the horse; neither delighteth he in the force of man ;

But the Lord's delight is in those who fear him, and put their trust in his mercy.

Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Sion.

For he hath made fast the bars of thy gates; and hath blessed thy children within thee.

He maketh peace in thy borders; and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth; and his word is instantly obeyed.

He giveth snow like wool; he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.

He casteth forth his ice like morsels; who can stand before his cold?

He sendeth out his word and melteth them; he bloweth with his wind, and the waters flow.

He showeth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and ordinances unto Israel.

He hath not dealt so with any other nation; neither hath the heathen knowledge of his laws. Praise ye the Lord.

Now unto the King eternal, etc.
Be honor and glory, etc.

EVENING PRAYER.

PSALM CXLVIII.

The heavens and the earth called to praise the Lord.

PRAISE ye the Lord. Praise ye the Lord from

the heavens; praise him in the height.

Praise him, all ye angels of his; praise him all his hosts.

Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all ye stars and light.

Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters of the skies.

Let them praise the name of the Lord, for he commanded and they were created.

He hath made them fast for ever and ever; he hath given them a law which shall not be broken. Praise the Lord, upon earth, ye whales, and all deeps;

Fire and hail, snow and vapors, wind and storm, fulfilling his word;

Mountains and all hills, fruitful trees and all cedars ;

Beasts and all cattle, creeping things and feathered fowls;

Kings of the earth and all people, princes and all judges of the world;

Young men and maidens, old men and children; praise the name of the Lord; for his name alone is excellent, and his praise is above heaven and earth.

He shall increase the glory of his people; all his saints shall praise him, even the children of Israel, even the people that serveth him. Praise ye the

Lord.

PSALM CXLIX.

Exhortation to praise God.

PRAISE ye the Lord. Sing unto the Lord a new song; let the congregation of saints praise.

him.

Let Israel rejoice in him who made him; and let the children of Sion be joyful in their king.

For the Lord hath pleasure in his people; he will beautify the meek with salvation.

Let the saints be joyful with glory; let them rejoice in their congregations.

PSALM CL.

Exulting praise.

PRAISE ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary. Praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his noble acts; praise him according to his excellent greatness.

Praise him with the sound of the trumpet; praise him upon the lute and harp.

Praise him upon the well-tuned cymbals; praise him upon the loud cymbals.

Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

Now unto the King eternal, etc.
Be honor and glory, etc.

END OF THE PSALMS.

[graphic][merged small][merged small][merged small]

To be used at Morning Prayer, instead of the Psalm, O come, let us sing, &c.

GLORY be to God in the highest, on earth peace,

good will toward men.

Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound; they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance;

Through the tender mercies of our God, whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us;

To give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide our feet in the way of peace.

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who bringeth good tidings; who publisheth peace; who bringeth good tidings of good; who publisheth salvation; who saith unto Sion, Thy God reigneth.

There is sprung up a light for the righteous, and joyful gladness for such as are true of heart.
