A TRACT FOR THE THE APOSTACY OF THE CHURCH ESTABLISHED BY LAW, AND THE INSUFFICIENCY OF HER CREEDS AND ARTICLES TO SECURE UNIFORMITY OF FAITH; SHEWN BY REFERENCE TO HER PAST HISTORY AND PRESENT CONDITION, AND ILLUSTRATED BY QUOTATIONS FROM THE WRITINGS OF G.P. H. LONDON: WARD & Co., PATERNOSTER-ROW. 1845. PREFACE. IN the present disorganized state of the Church established by Law, it cannot be unseasonable to take a view of her past history, as well as her present condition, with the view of tracing the causes which have led to the unhappy divisions which now distract her peace, and threaten her dissolution; and as the Author has stated nothing without authority, he hopes he shall not be charged with misstating or perverting the truth to the prejudice of either of the influential and antagonistic parties who now strive for ascendancy within her pale: between whom he feels that he has held the scales of justice with impartiality. And he earnestly invites his readers candidly to consider, as they proceed in the perusal of the following pages, whether the Church established by law has been, or is now, a good example of either truth, sincerity, fidelity, or consistency; and should they find her wanting in these respects, then a further question remains to be solved, not only by his readers, but by the nation at large,— Whether national support should not be withdrawn from an Institution, which has so signally failed in answering national purposes?
