- CUMMIMGS, HILLIARD, & CO. Have just published another Edition of this increasingly popular work, making 10,000 copies printed here and in New-York, in one year and a half from its first publication.

The following are among recommendations of the work recently received.

From Rev. Dr. Miller.

Princeton, March 16th, 1824.

REV. SIR, The plan of your "Reference Testament," appears to me well calculated to promote the attentive and intelligent perusal of Serip tures, by children and young people. Most heartily therefore, dal wish you success in this effort to do good. I am, Rev. Sir, yours

Rev. HERVEY Wilbur.

with much respect,

SAMUEL MILLER

New-York, 6th April, 1824

The Editor of the American Sunday School Teacher's Magazin has examined the Rev. Hervey Wilbur's Edition of the New Testa ment with references; and his key-sheet of questions, historical doctrinal, and practical: and he cheerfully adds his testimony the excellence of the design and execution of the work; which admirably calculated to excite a general attention to the true mean ing of the New Testament, and to increase the number of reader of that sacred volume; an effect which the writer of these ober vations has frequently witnessed with pleasure.

He cannot but add his earnest recommendation to the pious an laborious author to prepare similar references and key to the 0! Testament, for the benefit of the rising generation, and particular of the numerous Bible classes which are now formed, and to who such a work would be eminently useful.

New-York, April 7th, 1824. In the above remarks and recommendation I most cordially co cur, and especially so as I have not only examined the book myse but have witnessed its influence in practice.

WM. PATTON,

Pastor of the Central Pres. Church,

Broome-street, New-York.

And o'er thy slumbers breathe perfume.

YOUTHFUL reader, you are now entering into life with all the fond expectations, common to your age and experience. Hope paints the future in glowing colours, and opens before you a scene of uninterrupted enjoyment. But remember amidst all your pleasing prospects, that contentment is essential to your happiness; it is that only which can give a relish for the enjoyments of life, and inspire the mind with tranquillity. Gaze not with too much eagerness on the fair pictures of hope; they will create a distaste for present enjoyments, and render you discontented with your condition; then farewell to happiness, experience will prove these flattering prospects to be an illusion, and disappoint your most sanguine expectations.

As you are now forming a character, which you will sustain through life, it is of the highest importance that you should cultivate a spirit of contentment; on this depends, not only your happiness, but your future eminence. Discontent disgusts the mind with surrounding objects, and accustoms it to look to the future for all its pleasures; it sours the disposition, and destroys those generous feelings of the soul which fit us for the enjoyment of society and friendship.
