blessings of thy goodness, and continuest to do so from day to day; thy mercies are renewed to us every morning.

As thou hast preserved us in safety through the past night, and hast brought us to the beginning of another day, defend us in the same with thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings may be ordered by thy governance, to do always that is righteous in thy sight.

Grant, O Lord, that we may be duly sensible of the dangers to which we are ever exposed from a world that lieth in wickedness. Keep us, we beseech thee, from the evils with which it abounds; preserve us from the baneful influence of bad example;

and give us grace to live as those whose conversation is in heaven.

Enable us to mortify the deeds of the body, to crucify the flesh with its affections and lusts, and habitually to mind the things of the Spirit.

May we have grace and strength to defeat the designs of our adversary the devil, and to devote ourselves to thee alone with all the energies both of our bodies and of our souls.

May we not rest satisfied with present attainments either in knowledge or holiness; but may we seek after a more enlarged acquaintance with the truth as it is in Jesus, and cultivate a growing conformity to the mind which was in Him.

Let thy blessing be vouchsafed to us collectively as a family and household; and grant to each of us those

special mercies which thou knowest us individually to need.

May we be united to each other in Christian love and affection; and may we all be united to Jesus Christ in the bonds of the everlasting covenant.

O forgive our sins, and offences, through the atoning blood of thy dear Son, and for his sake lead and guide us in the way everlasting.

Have mercy upon all men; bless our friends and relatives every where; forgive our enemies, and may we have grace to forgive them also; comfort the afflicted, and relieve the destitute.

Visit thy Church and people with thy special grace and heavenly benediction; may there be added to them daily such as shall be saved.

Bless our King and country; and give to all nations, unity, peace, and concord.

These supplications and intercessions with our unfeigned tribute of praise we humbly present in the name and through the mediation of Jesus Christ our Lord.

EVENING PRAYER II.

O GOD, the strength of all them that put their trust in thee, we draw near unto thee, this evening, through Jesus Christ, thy beloved Son, to implore thy mercy and blessing, and to present unto thee the sacrifice of our thanks and praise.

We seek thy pardoning mercy, for

we have sinned against thee and done evil in thy sight. We acknowledge our offences before thee in penitence and humiliation of soul: O make us to know, by joyful experience, that thou art faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We implore the sanctifying grace of thy Holy Spirit, for we are polluted and defiled. Sprinkle clean water upon us, and we shall be clean; from all our filthiness, and from all our idols, do thou cleanse us. Give us also a new heart, and put a new spirit within us: take away the stony heart out of our flesh, and give us a heart of flesh. Put thy Spirit within us, and cause us to walk in thy statutes, and to keep thy judgments, and

do them.
