had made and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and 3 sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made: These are the generations of the 4 heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, And every plant of 5

maketh rich. Prov. x. 22. Blessed is the
man that doeth this, and the son of man that
layeth hold on it, that keepeth the sabbath
from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from
doing any evil. Every one that keepeth the
sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of
my covenant, even them will I bring to my
holy mountain, and make them joyful in my
house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and
sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar.
For mine house shall be called an house of
prayer for all people. Isa. lvi. 2. 6, 7. Take
heed to yourselves and bear no burden on the
sabbath day. But if you will not hearken

of Jerusalem on the sabbath day, then will I
kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall
devour the palaces of Jerusalem. Jer. xvii.

works, as God did from his. Heb. iv. 10.

3 Blessed the seventh day.] And it came to pass that on the sixth day they (the Israelites) gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man. Every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death, for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest. Exod. xxxiv. 21. Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy-day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord, whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death. Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitation upon the sabbath day. Exod. xxxv. 2, 3. Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation. Ye shall do no work therein. It is the sabbath of the Lord, in all your dwellings. Lev. xxiii. 3. Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee. Deut. v. 12. (Thou camest down upon Mount Sinai) And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath. Neh. ix. 14. In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine-presses, on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and leading asses, as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem, on the sabbath day, and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals what evil thing is this that ye do thou art God. : and profane the sabbath day? And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates to sanctify the sabbath. Neh.
