Hyinn.

Invitation to Sinners.

1 SINNERS, hear the SAVIOUR'S call,
He now is passing by ;
He has seen thy grievous thrall,
And heard thy mournful cry.
He has pardons to impart,

Grace to save thee from thy fears:
See the love that fills His heart,
And wipe away thy tears.

2 Why art thou afraid to come
And tell him all thy case?
He will not pronounce thy doom,
Nor frown thee from His face.
Wilt thou fear EMMANUEL?
Wilt thou dread the LAMB of GOD,
Who to save thy soul from hell,
Has shed His precious blood?

3 Think, how on the cross He hung,
Pierc'd with a thousand wounds!
Hark, from each as with a tongue
The voice of pardon sounds!
See, from all His bursting veins,
Blood, of wondrous virtue, flow!
Shed to wash away thy stains,
And ransom thee from woe.

4 Raise thy downcast eyes and see

What throngs His throne surround! These, though sinners once like thee, Have full salvation found.

Yield not then to unbelief,

While He says, "There yet is room!" Though of sinners thou art chief, Since JESUS calls thee, come.

Hymn.

Invitation to the Wretched and Undone.

1 COME, ye sinners, come and welcome;
GOD's free bounty glorify:
True belief, and true repentance,
Ev'ry grace that brings us nigh-
Without money,

Come to JESUS CHRIST, and buy.
2 Let not conscience make you linger,
Nor of fitness fondly dream;
All the fitness He requireth,
Is to feel your need of Him:
This He gives you;

'Tis His SPIRIT's rising beam.

3 Come, ye weary, heavy laden,
Lost and ruin'd by the fall:
If you tarry till you're better,
You will never come at all:
Not the righteous,

Sinners JESUS came to call.

4 View Him prostrate in the garden;
On the ground your Maker lies:
On the bloody tree behold Him!
Hear Him cry, before He dies,
"It is finish'd:"-
Sinner, will not this suffice?

5 Lo! th' incarnate GOD, ascended,
Pleads the merit of His blood:
Venture on Him, venture wholly,
Let no other trust intrude:
None but JESUS

Can do helpless sinners good.

6 Saints and angels, join'd in concert,
Sing the praises of the LAMB;
While the blissful seats of heav'n
Sweetly echo with His Name.
Hallelujah!

Sinners here may sing the same.

Hymn.

Invitation by God's Ambassadors.

1 GOD, th' offended GOD Most High,

Ambassadors to rebels sends ;

His messengers His place supply,
And JESUS begs us to be friends.

2 Us, in the stead of CHRIST, they pray,
Us, in the stead of GOD, entreat,
To cast our arms, our sins away,
And find forgiveness at His feet.

3 Our GOD in CHRIST, thine embassy,
And proffer'd mercy we embrace;
And gladly reconcil'd to Thee,
Thy condescending mercy praise.

4 Poor debtors, by our LORD's request,
A full acquittance we receive!
And criminals with pardon blest,
We at our Judge's instance live.

Hymn.

Invitation to those who are weary of Sin.

1 COME, ye weary sinners, come, All who groan beneath your load; JESUS calls His wand'rers home: Hasten to your pard'ning GOD.

2 Come, ye guilty spirits, oppress'd, Answer to the SAVIOUR'S call: "Come, and I will give you rest; Come, and I will save you all."

[ocr errors]

3 JESUS, full of truth and love,

We Thy kindest Word obey:
Faithful let Thy mercies prove;
Take our load of guilt away:

4 Fain we would on Thee rely,

Cast on Thee our ev'ry care,
To Thine arms of mercy fly,
Find our lasting quiet there.

5 Burthen'd with a world of grief,
Burthen'd with our sinful load,
Burthen'd with this unbelief,
Burthen'd with the wrath of GOD:

6 Lo! we come to Thee for ease,
True and gracious as Thou art;
Now our groaning souls release,
Write forgiveness on our heart.

Hymn.

Invitation to the worst of Sinners.

1 SEE, sinners, in the Gospel-glass,
The Friend and Saviour of mankind!
Not one of all th' apostate race,

But may in Him salvation find!

His thoughts, and words, and actions prove, His life, and death,—that GOD is love! 2 See, where the GOD incarnate stands,

And calls His wand'ring creatures home;
He all day long spreads out His hands;
Come, weary souls, to JESUS come!
Ye all may hide you in His breast;
Believe, and He will give you rest.
3 Come, O my guilty brethren, come,
Groaning beneath your load of sin;
His bleeding heart shall make you room;
His open side shall take you in:
He calls you now, invites you home;
Come, O my guilty brethren, come.
4 For

you the purple current flow'd,
In pardons from His wounded side;
Languish'd for you the Son of GOD;
For you the PRINCE of Glory died:
Believe, and all your sin's forgiv'n;
Only believe, and your's is heav'n.
5 Sinners, believe the Gospel-word;
JESUS is come your souls to save!
JESUS is come, your common LORD;
Pardon ye all through Him may have;
May now be sav'd, whoever will:
This man receiveth sinners still.
